What The Hell? This Game Sucks | 1.1 0 comments |
by jespomo from East Midlands, Lincolnshire, UK | Jun 7, 2004 |
THE GOOD: Updated teams and stats. Thats it.THE BAD: No editor. No player histories from before the games start date. 2D view sucks. Pretty much everything. SUMMARY: This is probably one of the worst games in CM history. This is like two steps backwords from 01/02. I brought this game and within a month I lent it to a mate and borrowed his CM 01/02. This game is that bad.
On the box it says 'most realistic football game in history'. How wrong can they be? What manager doesn't how their players have performed before June in 2002? That is such a glaring mistake. It is like they have rushed the game out in time for the new season meaning they didn't have time to finish it.
My advice. Avoid this game because if you do play it you are likely to want to commit suicide at how bad it is. |

THE GOOD: offering players to clubs is a really good feature and real life money crisis is good too as it make the game more relistic and better to play as a wholeTHE BAD: the 2d game it is terrible and the game is very slow compared to the last one SUMMARY: Champ, i am really disappointed about your new game i waited so long for it and for what? A 2d match game. when you have something good you improve it not totally renew it.offering players to clubs was good but why didnt you keep the game the same and add a few new features after all people wernt complaining about the game but they are now. I hope you improve the new game and good luck. But please forget the 2d game it is terrible! i think you need a very good game next time to win back the supporters of this game. That game could have been the best too but yous wasted it |

Big fan of all previous champ man series, really the only game ever play since cm2 - had success and failure along the way and always loved the game. was really looking forward to the new release after so many delays. finally got and well looked fantastic - amazing detail and looked great. started playing over network with few mates and after giving it good many months and ran the updates for the bugs ,have to say extremely disappointed.Never though would ever say this about a champ man game but this is awful.Maybe too used to the amazing high standards set by the prev games. Champ Man was always about the gameplay and unlike many of its competitors not about graphics. Haven't played champ man for months - longest ever period without playing. Not sure where to even start - how about players scoring 60 and 70 goals a season, or ronaldo scoring over a 100 some years. How about teams regulary going through season unbeaten and maybe drawing 2 or 3 games in process. How about 14-0 and 11-0 wins frequently. How about the complete lack of realism. How about the fact the game practically forces you into a 4-4-2 formation. Theres just so much.I think root of problems all come from the new match engine - compared to prev versions where it was amended and added to - cm4 removed it completey and attemped to rebuild a new one.why why why. Credit where credit is due - the detail is brilliant and level of options superb but the most important part and what made the game so addictive, the match engine, is absolutely brutal. You never feel like you're in control of the team and is very predictable in certain aspects. I gave the game a good go and tried teams from lower divions and higher and different leagues and always unrealistic. Tinkered with formatiosn and tactics but end in the end felt may as well be on holiday. I've won the league and have been relegated with teams but never and game always unconviencing. I could go on and on and add in little tales - but I wont.To end, if this was released under a differt title and now under the champ manager name - would be ok. But compared to previous champ manager games cm4 is garbage. |

Ive known every incarnation of Championship Manager since CM2, so the news that SI Games 4th revision of the game was due out simply thrilled me.
I mastered CM2, taking any team I chose as far as they could go winning every major championship or cup on the way. CM3 saw me struggle at first with the revised game engine and mountains of statistics, but finally, after much study and late nights (and a few amazing signings) I was able to realise my dream in becoming the England Manager.
Now with CM4, fully loaded and ready to run, I’m simply taken aback by its bottomless depth. The old 3-5-2 tactic that had me win the champions league on CM3 is useless, im confronted with the choices of whether I include 5-a-side match or cross country running in my training schedules and horrible situation when your Star man wants more money than you can afford.
Simply put, CM4 is the complete package. Its so detailed, you could read the sports pages in that rag, The Sun, and find a player who’s had a good couple of games, go back to CM4 and sign him, and watch him do you and your fans proud.
The tactics screen is similar to CM3, but a couple of clicks will release a whole plethora of information and options. Do you play with two centre forwards who have pace and great ball skills, or would you like to play with one who will hold up the ball and lay on through balls for another pacey striker to latch on to? The Choice is yours.
Finding new signings, and unknown players has always been like looking through a needle in a haystack. Unless you knew the players name, or watched him play in an opposing team, you weren’t guaranteed to find a player to suit your needs. And besides, if you did know his name, he’d either be really expensive or important to his present club. With CM4 you can find possible signings with the help of an advanced player database filter. Simply input what position you’d like him to play in, and your minimum requirements and instantly you’ll get a list of possible players. Your scouts also play an incredibly important role, even more so than in CM3, as a lot of the players aren’t available to you through simply searching for them. Your scouts find these players, assess them and then report back to you with players they feel would be beneficial to you team.
The match screen has also undergone some changes. The inclusion of a 2d match perspective is an absolute gem. Finally you can actually watch your teams performance, rather than relying on reading the commentary. Its only a matter of time before there’s a 3D match view surely?
In conclusion, CM fans should love this game like a son, a daughter, family friend, dog, cat, roast potatoes or that girlfriend you remember not calling back because you were deeply immersed in a certain virtual reality football management game.
This game should come with a warning, because your social life, and possibly your professional life could come to an end because you don’t play Championship Manager, you live it!

THE GOOD: Graphics are great on the 2D match, very very addictive. really. really. addictve.THE BAD: so addictive that it could take away your social life, no kidding. I once had one. SUMMARY: Wow. I don't know what it is, but Si have a champion here. I am addicted, can't get enough of it. There aren't enought good things to say about Champ man. At times it gets annoying. At times its pure bliss. Most times Champ man is a perfect way to release your footballing stress. So bad things... hmm... Well I wasn't too keen on the long loading times, for me it could take up to twenty minutes to save or load the dam thing, and this is the major problem which stops this game from gettin a perfect 5 from me. The people demand a quick champ man! Seroiusly, this is an awesome game to buy, and could probably be found in the bargain bin somewhere. Until CM5, This game is my current fave. |

CM4 - The Next Step | 4.0 0 comments |

THE GOOD:
New Match Engine
Updated Transfers
Whole new LayoutTHE BAD:
Incredably Slow
Thousands of bugs SUMMARY: CM4 was quite the disapointment when released. Slow, buggy and quite different. I considered taking it back before finally agreeing not to an giving it a full chance, and I'm glad I did. Once it has been gotten used to CM4 can be quite the addictive game, like it's very successful predecessor. The amrchair managers who think they know better then the real thing can go out and put their skills to the most realistic thing to actually taking charge of Arsenal.
With a wide range of leagues from nearly 100 countries CM4 offers the player a massive amount of clubs to take control of, so gtting bored of the game is near on impossible until the next in the series is released. Eidos and Sports Interactive have done it once again. A great game. |

THE GOOD: Really good game, allows you to interact with your players, alot more lifelikeTHE BAD: Hard to change information such as kick takers etc, the way SUMMARY: i am getting a bit annoyed with Wayne Rooney.. I offered him ALOT in a contract to get him to come to Arsenal and now he says he is unhappy and that he dislikes me, not only that, he can barely play 1 game without getting tired. Robinson started off a bit crap but now he is saving alot of really good shots.
Whoever suggested Todorov... THANK YOU! he scored in his debut and hasn't stopped scoring since. Henry is the best striker ........................................... My Formation GK-Robinson LB-Cole CB-Keown CB-Campbell RB-Toure DM-Mancini CM-Ljungberg CM-Pires AM/Free Role- Rooney ST-Todorov ST-Henry ........................................... Can anyone give me any suggestions????? |

THE GOOD: Very realistic and a great new layout! All the players in the right teams etc....THE BAD: Some players are over-rated and some are under rated! The writing is quite small but not that bad. Sometimes it loads fast but sometimes it takes a while to load. SUMMARY: Teams are up to date from 2003 January transfer window (which is nice). For example: Woodgate is at Newcastle and Fowler is at Man City. This game is probably the best game from the CM series and I hope they carry on the great series! There is no editor with it but they may put one in one of the enhancement packs (www.sigames.com)! There are quite alot of bugs but they are fixed in the enhancement packs! A great new 2D pitch to watch the match, but if you want to have the match like the old CM's you can just change it at the bottom. |

Great Game! | 5.0 0 comments |

THE GOOD: This game take Football Management to the next level! It has a bigger database of football knowledge and you can play on forever and never get bored. New oppurtunities and news come up every day so you'll never have nothing to do. The 2D pitch addition is a god send. It allows you to increase the fun and adrenaline rush to new levels. If you have any problems with bugs you can download the enhancement packs.THE BAD: With an increased database and many leagues the game will be slow. Because of the detailed improvements from the last CM games you will only be able to play a few leagues unless you have a crazy high database PC. SUMMARY: The game wis well worth the money and you will never ever get bored of playing it til the next game comes out. |

CM4 - A Unique Game | 4.8 0 comments |
by Jambo from , East Lothian, Scotland | Apr 20, 2003 |
THE GOOD: Championship Manager 4 has taken football management games to the next level! They have a new and improved layout for the game! The most improved feature for Championship Manager 4 this time round is the training mode! In older versions of Championship manager, the training was just shooting for attackers, stamina & technique for midfielders etc, etc. But in Championship Manager 4 there is a big improvement in detail to it. Instead of haveing just shooting for attackers you could maybe make them play "Piggy in the Middle" or have them work on there agility. also in the training mode you can make them play 5-aside matches on a big pitch or a small pitch the choice is yours. these are only a small amount of options you have in the training mode! The other vastly improved feature is the match engine. In older versions of championship manager you used to only see the commentry in the text accross the center of the screen, but now in championship Manager 4 you can watch your team play in 2D mode. the advantages of that are that you can now see how your team is performing, where they are going wrong in the game, and what the other team is doing and the flow of the game! another thing that has been improved on is the interaction with the players. If a player becomes unhappy at the club and vents his feelings you can now talk to the player and make promises to him. but if you dont follow your promises then some players might not want to work with you because they cant trust what you say and they will become unhappy. When you offer a player a contract now you have alot more options to give the player eg, if you are a lower league club and you might get relagted then you can insert a cluase into the players contract that if they get relegated then they take upto a 25% pay cut and vice versa if you are promoted you can get a 25% pay rise.THE BAD: As with anygame there are bad points to it and for this game the speed of the game is quite slow. but that is the consequences of having all these new features in the game. when in Championship Manager 2001/02 with your average PC you could run maybe 7 leagues with 20 Divisions in this game you cant run as many leagues maybe with your average PC about 5-6 divisions from any country. When the game was released there was an awful lot bugs still to be fixed in the game, but you can download enhancement packs from SIgames.com (official site) which will correct all the data bugs SUMMARY: Championship Manager 4 is a good game (great in my opinion) but it is only really a good game if you like those sort of game. If you play FIFA 2003 and games like that then this is nothing like that, FIFA is a game for people who like action sport games. I would call this more of a strategy game than a sporty one. With all the new features in the game in futor versions then the game can only get better. I like the way the developers of the game have made it so the big top players (Ronaldo, Davids etc) arne't as good as they are because it just makes the game not as good because half the fun is looking sending your scouts out to different countries and then having alook at the players they reccomend to you, and then you make the decision on whether to take the chance in buying them or not. and if you find the right player and you train him correctly then it is the best thing to watch him blossom in front of your eyes in the heart of your team. One pleasing thing to do in Championship Manager 4 is to take controll of a lower division team (in the conference or 3rd division) and take them to the top level (the Champions league) and admire your work in doing that, because with the way the money is in the game now it is very hard to do that in a short number of seasons. Overall i would give this game a 4.8/5 just for the sheer enjoyment this game gives me and my fellow Championship Manager 4 players and I would like to thank SIgames for giving us a top quality game to keep us occupied for the next year, and it has been worth the 6 month delay we had.
