A Gift from God | 4.5 0 comments |
by ShadowKing2 from In a ditch, , Ireland | May 25, 2005 |
THE GOOD: 1.The nice Creature is SOOOOO COOOL!!!!! 2.Ability to be a good loving god or an evil, demonic one. 3.Advanced AI for the Creature; you can teach him to sleep, eat, fish and do many other things which is really cool.THE BAD: 1.The terrible crappy way of moving around by grabbing the land, seriuosly this can b remedied by using the directional buttons on your keyboard. 2.Frustratingness in trying to getyour Creature to full size. SUMMARY: You are a god who is trying to become the most powerful,as all the other gods in this divided land called Eden.
You must battle through 5 different levels to take your place as the rightful ruler of Eden.
There are two funny guys who I call Blackie and Whitey who are your conscience.every so often when you do something one of them will comment on it.For example wwhen you throw a rock on a building sometimes Whitey will say 'Goodness!!That's totally smashed!'' |

Creative and Unique Game | 4.2 0 comments |
by Master of the VG from San Diego, CA, | Jul 30, 2002 |
THE GOOD: The gameplayTHE BAD: Gets boring after awhile(who has actually played this game to the end?) SUMMARY: There were some times when I laughed because of things that happened during the game(my creature throwing people at buildings)and there where times when I almost fell asleep. This game is great, but eventually get bored of it and you will want to play something else. The concept of the game is that you are a god ruling over the people. You have a creature too. It is your job to train your creature and keep your people believing in you. Get this game if you are interested, but otherwise get another game.
Bottom Line:
Nice game, but gets boring. |

THE GOOD: Everthing especially real life graphicsTHE BAD: Nothing really, it's a little hard but that's the fun. SUMMARY: I think that this is a great game. It has all the great qualities a game could have: good graphics, very good story line, very realistic. I think after Creatures Isle blows over they should come out with a Black and White 2 with like a whole new threat. |

Nice Graphics but... | 3.0 0 comments |
by Maxpower from Paignton, Devon, England | Oct 24, 2001 |
THE GOOD: Good graphics, original gameplay and story.THE BAD: Difficult and becomes boring. SUMMARY: A great game for about 5 hours then you just want to go back to the classics. Good graphics, interesting idea, but soon gets annoying. You need a pretty fast computer to run this one to the fullist (700Mhz + Good 3d grapics card) not the greatest but it is a change. |

Black & White : The Ultimate God Sim | 4.7 0 comments |

Considering this game took the guys at Lionhead three years to create, you would expect the game to be brilliant, and you wouldn't be mistaken.
"Black and White" is a difficult game to categorise although is in essence a god sim, unlike any you have ever played. The objective of the game is a simple one, take over each world by converting all villages to believe in you. However, the way you do this is up to you. The game is full of options and possibilities, will you be a blessing or a curse? The decisions you must make are not just to be good or evil, but in what way to be good or evil - will you crush or burn, feed or heal, the choice is yours. Although the game follows a main story line, you choose which path to take, good or evil, black or white. Although you follow this main structure there are an endless amount of sub plots that you can choose to follow, each providing new decisions to be made.
The game employs an amazing control system, the ability to rotate and view the land from any angle, the ability to zoom in/out, to view the whole land or a single villager, and the ability to pitch your view to view the sky or the ground, further escalates the detail in this game. On top of this the game uses no windows unlike others in this genre, every command is carried out using your hand (controlled by the mouse). It does this via a gesture system, in which by making set shapes with the mouse you can conjure miracles, grab your creatures leash, and move as previously stated.
The games immense detail is aided by amazing textures, which mean that even the trees are different to each other. However, Voodoo graphic card users beware, the game conflicts with your card and although the game can still run, the textures will not be able to be used properly, so your trees and villagers will be strange colours, which can be slightly irritating.
The sounds in "Black and White" are just as detailed as the rest of the game. Villager will say things on occasion, the odd scream of fear, a sarcastic thank you or even a exclamations of joy when you give them food. In fact there is even a download which gives each villager the ability to actually communicate, allowing him or her to converse between one another. The sounds in the game are not just detailed but many are also hilarious. For example, on the first land you will be sung to by a group of sailors and the arguments between your conscience, both good and bad, are entertaining to say the least. For instance, if you are inactive for roughly 10 minutes your conscience begins to argue among themselves as well as insult you.
The AI involved in this game is unmatched, each villager/creature will make independent decisions or will follow your commands, when instructed. Moreover, your creature (which you acquire near the start of the game) can learn anything you teach it. It will mimic you as if a child and will react to rewards or punishments. So, if you throw a villager your creature will want a go and if you stroke him for it he will do it without being told. This also works with the miracles you cast and when feeding your villages etc.
On top of this, this game is totally addictive and engrossing. You will find those hours pass and feel like minutes, and you will love it.
Unfortunately, although an amazing game it doesn't quite reach perfection due to its negative down falls. For instance, the game has quite a few bugs, although most can be resolved by downloading a free patch. Also, those of you with a less powerful computer will be cursed with a rather poor frame rate, so those who dont quite reach the required specs beware.
In conclusion, this game is well worth your money. Detailed and captivating it will bring you a lot of enjoyment. A must have for your PC! |

Brilliant game, shame about the requirements | 4.6 0 comments |
by ð~§hoe*Ma§ter~ð from England | Sep 30, 2001 |
THE GOOD: There's always something new to do in the game.THE BAD: It can get annoying if it doesnt go your way. SUMMARY: B&W is a brilliant, original game with many twists that will keep you amused for ages! I probably would have given it a 5 if it wasn't for it's needs for a top quality graphics card and an overall very fast computer... |

Are you a good god... or an evil god? | 4.3 0 comments |

THE GOOD: - Amazing amount of freedom - Get to choose your own 'creatures' - Excellent side quests - Non-linear, you do what you want - Mind blowing spells - Nice graphics - Great online features (you can even download your local weather!) - Detailed game - Just those little extras that top the icing on the cakeTHE BAD: - Graphics look a little outdated up close - Might need a ninga PC to handle it - Only good for those who want to put the time and effort in SUMMARY: Black and White; after about three months after it's long awaited release, it still ceases to amaze me.
So, what is Black and White? Well, it could be an RTS, an RPG, a tamigotchi style game... the list is endless! There is no real easy way to explain this game, it is a mircale in itself.
The first thing you see after launching the game is an excellent representation of the Lionhead logo. Hell, it even warps into your personal ensigna which you choose at the beginning of the game.
The introduction really sets the scene. It starts off with a couple with their son next to the shore.
"No son, don't go into the water!" "Careful, the sharks!"
"There is no need for a god on an island of innocent people... that is until fate steps in"
So, naturally...
"Please someone, I call to the heavens, save our son!"
And that is where it begins. A hand comes from the clouds and saves the young boy, the island is in awe, you are their god!
The game plays in a simple, choose gold scroll quest to progress, alongside small 'mini-game' silver scroll quests (which are not vital to the progression of the game itself, but lets just say you get some tasty rewards from them...).
You get a creature ("Every God has a creature", White says, one of the two consiences who are popping up with hints, or in the case of Black, ways to kill the village in the fastest time) to pick from. This little guy will learn from you. If you start helping the villagers, the creature will start stroking them and doing general good deeds. But if you set fire to their homes and plant trees on their crops... your creature will run wild demolishing anything that comes in its way.
As you progress you get to meet much stronger creatures which you can transfer your creature's 'experience' to!
All goes well, until the arrival of another god... so you fight through the islands converting the towns to your religion. Sounds good? Well, hey it is!
There are so many small details in this game, from the way the game takes your address book from Outlook Express to name your villagers, to the way the music changes depending on your alignment.
The only bad thing I could say about it may be the way that the game's graphics do not look that good up close, or the way that your creature decides to eat everyone because he is hungry (er wait, that was my creature... hehe, disregard that)
Overall? It is all good, a great buy with great value for money with an extensive online service which will keep you addicted to the godly magic. |
