BackgroundThe evil Wario has brought nightmares and monsters to the ordinarily-peaceful forest, and Toad and Birdo team up with their fairy partner to turn the monsters nice again using an array of magical explosives.
Game PlayA puzzle game with strong Tetris elements, the gameplay in Wario's Woods involves catching bombs dropped by your partner and placing them next to like-colored monsters or bombs. If a bomb is placed horizontally, vertically, or diagonally adjacent to two or more bombs or monsters, they will be cleared. Some monsters are a bit tougher; these may require multiple hits or may change colors. Certain special plays will make crystals appear, which clear all of the monsters of that color.
After a certain amount of time, Birdo will disappear from the upper-right window, being replaced by the evil Wario. When that happens, a Pidgit will begin dropping monsters, and Wario may cause a Thwomp to drop down another level, reducing the field of play and increasing the risk of Toad getting squashed if play drags on for too long.
The goal of the game is to clear all the monsters from the room. Afterwards, you'll advance to the next level, earning a coin bonus if you finished fast enough. In two-player games, the objective is to clear all the monsters in your own room or fill up the opponent's room.
FeaturesWario's Woods includes a 100-round adventure mode, versus modes against the computer or another player, and a time attack game.
