Background

The third, and final, NES iteration of the Ninja Gaiden series, Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom was subject to the most changes that set it apart from its predecessors. Not sporting the psuedo-isometric view of the previous Ninja Gaiden installments, the game lost quite a bit of its interactivity with the environment, but made up for it with the quality of detail found in the graphics of stage backgrounds and with the addition of several gameplay features.

Features

- 14 levels spanning a total of 7 chapters
- Original storyline, complete with cinematics
- The ability to powerup your sword
- Vertical scrolling levels
- First Ninja Gaiden NES game to make use of a password system (found in the Japanese release, "Ninja Ryuukenden III")
