THE GOOD:
More variety in gameplay compared to the arcade version. Unique skill-building system. 2-player vs. mode.

THE BAD:
No 2-player simultaneous option. You can't use all the moves at first. Fights are too far apart at times.

SUMMARY:
A port of the ultra-popular arcade brawler, the home version made several significant changes to the gameplay experience. First, the 2-player simultaneous option was done away with in favor of a co-op mode and a decent 2-player vs. mode that let you fight as any of 6 characters from the game. Second, instead of straight-forward fighting all the time, you start with just a couple of moves and have to earn experience and learn moves rather than just go out and start jump-kicking everyone right away...Interesting but ultimately takes some of the fun out of the game at first. It does add a nice RPG-like dimension to the fighting, though. There are still the other traditional weapons, like whips, bats, and whatever you can get your hands on.
The graphics are OK but not quite as detailed or smooth as the arcade version was. Same can be said for the sounds-it's really lacking in the area of good effects like the arcade had. The controls are decent but obviously not as good as the arcade's, partly because you're trying to convert a 3-button setup into a 2-button setup for the NES controller.
While in some ways, the changes to the gameplay are nice, some people won't like the fact that it's not an exact port of the arcade version with regards to gameplay. Whether or not you'll like this game comes down to what you expect-if you want the exact arcade experience, it's not here. But if you want a little something unique & different, try this one out-especially for the 2-player fighting game. It's not much but a nice little extra addition.
