THE GOOD:
Destiny of an Emperor 2 is a very deep game. Only Dragon Warrior IV compares in terms of this, if you're talking RPGs. While you can't recruit generals in random battles like you could in Destiny of an Emperor 1, you do compile a more realistic "Shu" army to restore the Han dynasty. In addition, the plot line follows a more honest and true (yet still fictional in many cases) story as opposed to the castle-by-castle approach of DoaE1. Most of the characters carry over, and so do a lot of spells and weapons, adding familiarity to veterans. Each character has their own personal weapon this time around (axe, sword, saber, bow, etc.) and gains soldiers as well, instead of just the Tiger generals in DoaE1. Having 25 generals to choose from is a bit more entertaining than having seven or eight.

THE BAD:
It is definitely not as linear as the first addition. This can be good or bad, but there are definitely times where you're messing around delivering items or just aren't entirely sure of where you're supposed to be going. Some of the caves can be tedious (have fun getting the Blood Seal) as well. Battles are slower, but also seem to be a bit more engaging. An Sha isn't what it was in the last installment either (It's on here, but it's rare and you get it later and it doesn't work at a high percentage anyway).

SUMMARY:
With DoaE 1 being my favorite game, I can't say how or if this would appeal to non-fans of the series. It was not released in English (but the patch was in 2001) but that was probably more of a cultural issue than a game-quality issue. As stated before, you're looking at a massive RPG that stands up quite well to the Dragon Warrior's and Final Fantasy's of the Nintendo world quite well.
