Twisted Edge Extreme Snowboarding is just another snow boarding game that was created to try to bring in some money to a company, and it shows. This game was poorly made, and it seems as though it was just looking for popularity by being in the same category as Cool Boarders and 1080 Snowboarding. It is just all around a boring game, every thing about it is not fun, all of the options are lame and it is just plain old horrible. I really don't think too many people will like this game.
PROS: There really are not many good things about this game, I guess the best part about it is that once you play it for the first time you will never have to play it for the rest of your life unless you want to.
CONS: The graphics are extremely bad, as well as the physics, and the ____ (fill in any other part of a video game here)
GRAPHICS: 3/10 The graphics in this game are very simple and polygonal. There is not any real smooth surfaces and it has the kind of people where there knees will get cut off and they can still board with there upper body separate from there shins. The backgrounds look kind of like a drawing done by that one guy. (You know the ''happy little tree'' guy on Public Television). The snow kind of looks like you are sliding down on top of some sort of white colored platform and every now and then you might throw up some little flakes. Even the landscapes that are off to the side are lame. These graphics are just very unappealing to the eye, and seem to have quite a few defects.
MUSIC: 5/10 There is a decent soundtrack to this game. It will all depend on what kind of music that you like. If you like the music in all of the other snow boarding games, then you would probably like the music on this one too. I don't really know what it would be classified as, maybe rock. But it is not really rock, maybe alternative rock with a side of attitude. If you like this kind of music, then you would probably like the music on this game.
SOUND EFFECTS: 4/10 Haven't I already heard these sound effects some where? Yeah, that's it.... every other snow boarding game of all time. You know what I mean, the same old swish of the snow as you try to take a turn and the all so familiar thud of your boarder landing on his head while trying to pull off an insane trick, which by the way are quite complicated to do. There is also a familiar sound of you skaters running into each other. Sound effects are all around just kind of weak for this game, as well as many of the other parts of this game.
CONTROLS: 2/10 Controlling you boarder has always been kind of difficult to do at first, but usually once you get them down then they seem to become easier. For some reason the controls for this game are difficult to learn. Another thing that was interesting was the fact that you could pull off many tricks with ease, but it was frustratingly difficult to add spins in to your tricks. Other than those couple of thing the controls just seem to be kind of bad, it is hard for me to put my finger on why it is so bad, it just is.
GAMEPLAY: 4/10 This can be a fun game to play at times, other times it won't unfortunately more often than not it is not fun to play. I think that it is because of the poor quality of the rest of the game, and you really do not get that much choice of what to do. There are only four boarders, but there is a huge selection of boards, all six of them. There are a decent amount of courses at fourteen. If they could have taken the time to make better graphics and more skaters and boards, the game would increase its over all enjoyment by allot more than you would think, but they did not do that so the game will still stay quite bad and you won't be able to enjoy it as much as you would like.
REPLAY VALUE: 2/10 If the game is not fun to play the first time around then it most likely will not be fun to play the second and third time around. However, if you do like this game then you probably would think that the replay value might be a little bit higher, because it is pretty much the same game after you beat it as it was before you beat it.
STORY LINE: 3/10 There really is not a story line for this game. All you have to do is pick who you want to snow board with and there board, then go out into a track and race down the mountain. If you are lucky enough to beat the rest of your skaters then you will go on to your next race, and continue the whole process over again, and every now and then you will get into a Big Air competition where you try to pull off huge tricks, and land them. You keep on repeating this process until you have become the greatest of all time, and this really is not too much fun to do at all.
ENDING: 2/10 There really is no end to this game, its suckyness will live on forever haunting you in your dreams and scaring your family. Well not really, I was just trying to make it sound better than it is. All it really does it roll through the credits. Ooops! I hope I did not spoil anything for you. If you are looking for a game with no real story line and then no real ending, then you should play this game, other wise you will not like this game too much.
CHEATS: 1/10 The cheats in this game are not really good in any sense of the word. There are not any new options, boarders, or boards to get, they just are not very fun to do at all. I don't think I would ever say this about a game from Midway, but the cheats just plain old stink. I really would have thought that they could have put in some codes to put in this game that would be fun, but they didn't. O well I guess they were trying to make a bad game.
CHALLENGE: 8/10 This is a challenging game, to the point where you do not want to play it any more. (Either that or the face that it is a horrible game.... I forget which) Anyway there is no great challenge to complete in this game. Just race down the side of a mountain and hope that you can get in the front of the pack of boarders, and it really is not at all challenging.
ORIGINALITY: 1/10 How many times has there been a snowboarding game released in the last couple of years? Too many is the correct answer, and this is one of those that you wish never was created. It is hard to enjoy this game due to the fact that it has been over done so much so often. I will give credit where it is due, and besides the spinning, or lack there of, the trick system is one of the most original ones that I have played in a while, and is in face one of the better points of this game.
BUY RENT?: No. There is no real reason to do either one especially when there are much better games out there for you to enjoy, but if you do find it for cheap and have a couple of extra dollars and feel like buying this game, go ahead, I just would not recommend it at all.
