THE GOOD:
-The graphics in this game are magnificent, although it may not compare to today's in-game graphics, it was some of the best the Nintendo 64 could do at the time.
-The items were very good, every weapon is useful in some way in the game, although some more than others. Each weapon and item are fun to use or to help in dungeons. For example, the boomerang, its only use in the game was in lord Jabu-Jabu's belly, but you could still use it for anything you want as a child.
-The music in this game is to have one of the best scores in any game, everywhere you go, there is sure to be some type of music playing that perfectly fits the area you are currently in. The favorites of many fans is usually the Overworld theme to Gerudo Valley, or the Overworld theme to the windmill in Kakariko Village.
-The game play in this game is something worth mentioning, the control scheme is very easy to understand, for example, if you need to swing you sword, simply press the "B" button. There is no need for button mashing to defeat an enemy. This way, you need timing and strategy to defeat something.
-The storyline in ocarina of time is one of the reasons that this game is so great, I'll just mention the beginning of the story to prevent spoilers. Link starts out in the Kokiri forest sleeping, when navi the fairy wakes him up telling him that the Great Deku Tree has summoned him, he tells him about an evil man that put a curse on him, and that link has to defeat the monster inside of him, but even after that, the Great Deku Tree dies, but tells you about what the evil man wanted, gives you a stone that will come in use later, and tells you that you must continue you journey to save Hyrule.THE BAD:
I personally hate to be doing this, but it has to be done.
-I'll start off with the one everyone can agree on, the annoyingness of Navi the fairy. She helps you at first, but once you've figured out what to do, she just keeps telling you the same thing over and over. Once you complete the game, her advice is useless.
-the emptiness of Hyrule Field, even though it is big and beautifully drawn out, the only real enemies are the peahats, but they're tucked away in corners where you usually don't go where they are, it's even emptier as an adult, all there is are a few poes, which can be easily avoided.
-The difficulty of the bosses, they were all too easy, all you had to do was stun them and start slashing with your sword, the only difference is that you had to stun them differently.
SUMMARY:
All ranting aside, this is really a great game, even with the things in the "bad" section, it's still not enough to drop it one-tenth of a point. The game play is fantastic, so is the music, the storyline are all amazing.
The most common enemies in the game are usually the red and blue tektites, which are pretty weak, but they can jump over your attacks and hit you, the blue ones are slightly stronger, in the water temple, there are many of them, the thing that makes them harder to defeat is usually when they're in water, you can't hit them with your sword, just shoot them with arrows, but they usually jump over them. A few other enemies include keese, which are bats that swoop in and attack you, hitting them with your sword is the fastest way to get rid of these, like in ganon's tower, there are many fire keese at the entrance, hitting them with your sword is the best way to kill all of them, because using your bow and arrows would take too much time and giving the keese an open shot at you. some not so common enemies are the stalfos, they look like skeleton knights, this is one of the enemies that are harder to beat, because your timing has to be done very well for you to get an attack on them, the fact that they also have a sword and shield does not help much, it makes them block almost all of your attacks, the only ways to beat them is to either attack when they are vulnerable or use din's fire. other common enemies include Poe the ghost, redeads/gibdos, the mummified men, and wall/floormasters, you should run across these enemies pretty often while playing the game, mostly as an adult, though.
The ocarina is the is the most used item for many people, whether it be for getting from one place to another, opening certain doors, or just to play some random songs, it is also used for many novelty purposes, people have found out how to play theme's to movies and shows, such as star wars, the simpsons, mission: impossible, as well as a few others. some other uses of the ocarina is to summon the the scarecrow to be able to reach higher places, such as a room in the fire temple that can only be reached by using the hookshot/longshot on the scarecrow.
The control scheme is pretty easy to understand after a few minutes, i'll start with the two most used buttons, the "A" and "B" buttons. The "B" button's use is pretty simple, it's mostly to swing your sword, but as soon as you recieve epona, it is used to ready and shoot your bow and arrow, but only when you are riding epona. The "A" button is for many purposes, it's uses include opening doors, rolling, putting away your sword, dropping the master sword into it's pedestal, and many other things. The "R" button, is used to simply shield yourself, and the "L" button is used to hide/unhide your map. The four "C" buttons are pretty useful, all they do is to hold three of you weapons/items, but you will be using it a lot in the game, the only exception is the top "C" button, which either gives you a first-person view or listen to navi.
There are a few sidequests in this game, but they sure are long, one in particular is the biggoron sword sidequest, where you trade various items to get the unbreakable biggoron sword, it is as strong as the giant's knife, but it cannot break, no matter, what. this sword really comes in handy in the final battle with ganon.
One thing I did not mention in the "good section is how the greatly every area you go to is when you look at it. Lon Lon Ranch, Hyrule Castle, and all of the temples are all beautiful, as well as small areas like holes that you fall into, they're all carefully drawn out and put into as much detail as they possibly could on the Nintendo 64.
There is not much I could say now that wasn't mentioned already, so I'll end off with this, ocarina of time is a great game, and even with out-dated graphics, it is still considered to be one of the best games of all time and ranked number 1 overall on gamerankings.com. The legend of Zelda ocarina of time is available on the Nintendo 64, Gamecube, and is on the Wii's virtual console.
