Background

Side Pocket lets aspiring pool sharks take part in four different game modes: One-Player Pocket Game, Two-Player Pocket Game, Two-Player Nine-Ball Game and Trick Game. "Pocket Game" involves traveling to various pool halls to show off your skill in landing certain shots. Points are earned through sinking balls in as few shots as possible, with bonuses awarded for hitting the highlighted pocket. Once you earn the required points, you'll be able to continue to the next level. A top-down view of the table will let you plan each shot, and a ball icon and power meter at the top of the screen are used to carry it out.

Play involves first aiming a white dotted line to set the angle, then selecting the point of impact by moving a cursor over an icon of the cue ball. Once you're ready to shoot, determine the amount of power needed by watching the horizontal meter and pressing a button somewhere in between the maximum and minimum setting. Trick Game is a series of 19 different games of skill requiring you to sink one or more balls with a single shot. The challenge involves certain pockets being blocked off or having to maneuver around wine glasses! Side Pocket for the Genesis features 22 music tracks (selected from a jukebox) and password support to continue your progress.
