THE GOOD:
  • The game has added four(4) players from the previous additions two(2) player multi player.
  • Many more characters to choose from.
  • More stages.
  • Handicaps are now available for those with less skill than others.
  • Amazing graphics for a Gamecube game.

    THE BAD:

  • The music still isn't the greatest.
  • When the characters talk the words don't match the mouth movements.

    SUMMARY:
Gameplay: The game play is actually fairly simple, and don't take long to learn.

The story mode is basically where you go through the game with your character (Naruto), and have matches in a arena, and try to win to advance on to the next part of the story mode, to have another match.

There are also different game modes you can choose from.

One Player Mode: In this mode you will play agianst 10 different characters in trying to get the highest score you can. You earn points by doing damage to your opponent. More damage, more points.

Oboro Mode: In this mode, you face clones(oboros) back to back. You continueisly try to kill them off until they finally get the best of you. This mode will put all of your skills to the test.

Play Against Computer: In this mode you will play a 1 vs 1 match against a computer. This mode is basically for fun, but it can help your 1 vs 1.

Team Battle: In this mode, you choose three(3) people to make a team. Then you will face off in a 1 vs 1 against you opponent. When your character dies, then next person in your group will come out to fight. This continues until one person has nobody on their team.

Survival: In this mode you try to kill as many characters in a row without dieing. Your health that you have left will stay the same for the next round, but you will gain just a little bit of health to help you out. The first few are easy but as you go farther up they get harder.

Time Attack: In this mode you try to go through ten(10)(20+ since you have to face each character at least twice) matches as fast as possible. This mode will help you with finishing opponents with the up most of speed. Your fingers will learn the buttons a little better also as your fingers move faster to keep your time low.

View Mode: In this mode, you choose two(2) characters to watch in a computer control match. This mode can be very helpful in learning combos, and figuring out weakness's and strengths against certain characters.

Four Player Mode: There is also the new addition of the four(4) player which can really add to game play.

Different ways to have a four(4) player game:

  • 1 vs 1 vs 1 vs 1. So basically a free for all.
  • 1 vs 3. One(1) person versus three(3) others.
  • 2 vs 2 A team game where it is two(2) people versus two(2) people.

    Characters in the game:

    Naruto
    Sasuke
    Sakura
    Kakashi
    Shikamru
    Ino
    Kiba
    Hinata
    Rock Lee
    Garra
    Sharingan Kakashi
    Kyuubi Naruto
    Might Guy/Gai
    Crow
    Konkuro
    Akamaru
    Iruka
    Kankurou
    Zabuza Momochi
    Neji Hyuuga
    Haku
    Mizuki
    Orochimaru
    Sharingan Sasuke

All that are Bolded, are the ones you must unlock

Graphics: The graphics for this game are actually good for it's time. The graphics itself are really what make this game good. It really adds a feeling to you while you are playing. You wouldn't expect these kinds of graphics for a Gamecube game. The character look almost as good as like the show at times.

Plot: The plot follows the show fairly well. You are Naruto and you go all the way to the Chunin Exams. It is basically like the first ones story mode. All through the this story mode they switch up the game play to issue the four(4) player capabilities as much as possible, and they go farther into the story of the show than the first.

After you finish the main story mode, you can buy little additions to play as other people, and even unlock new things.

Easter Eggs: If you have saved data of Naruto Clash of Ninja then you will get a free 10,000 coins to help buy things from the shop. Which goes a long ways. Considering you have to buy all of the unlock able characters.

Audio: The audio isn't the best in this game. The background music isn't worth listening too, and the characters voices aren't that great.

Controls: Are very easy to learn, and suit the game well.

    Buttons:

  • A: Is used more towards throwing kunai and shuriken. Except for those characters who don't have kunai nor shuriken, and use Taijutsu (Fist to fist fighting) instead.
  • B: Is used for Taijutsu attacks.
  • Y: Is used to throw your opponents, and in some characters moves it is used more as a push.
  • X: Is used to unleash your special move on a person when you have full chakra. Most characters specials need to be used right beside your opponent.
  • L and R: Is used to make a shift to the side, and to use a substitution if you have enough chakra.
  • Z Is used to face a different opponent when in a more than 2 player game.

Repetition: The game can get a tad repetitive as you spend countless hours playing matches to earn coins to buy every thing from the shop to have a full game experience.

Lasting Value: The game actually does last a long time. You will spend a long time buying stuff from the shop to improve game play. This will make you work hard to get the envied player 'Sasuke Uchiha with Sharingan.'

You will also spend countless hours playing with friends in multi player. Considering this is the best part of the game, you will spend most of your time in it. When you are having fun, you will notice your rise in coins, which will help you buy out the shop.

Tying Into a Series: This is the second game in the series. Too bad that the others won't come to the USA due to it is a Japan exclusive.

Glitches: There are glitches in the game, but nothing that will ruin your system or game.

    One of these glitches include:

  • Making Neji invincible, when you can land one palm during his special instead of two.

Recommending It: I would really recommend this game for all Naruto fans. Especially since this is the last game that will come out anywhere except Japan.(Yes you can import)

You will spend many hours playing this game with friends, especially since you can now play with three(3) of your friends instead of one(1).

After a long wait I managed to get my grubby mitts on a copy of Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen 2, and I have to say I am not disappointed. I'm a big fan of the recent smash hit from Japan, and the opportunity to play as the characters smacking each other silly was too much for me to resist. Naruto is about a boy called (Surprise, surprise) Naruto training to become a ninja with his two team mates, Sasuke and Sakura. In the style of the anime this fighter has plenty of ninja action with most of your fave Jutsu's and characters from the first half of the 100 or so episodes. It's a smooth, fast fighter, which will make Naruto fans wet themselves and impress fans of the fighting genre in general as well.

    Graphics:

The graphics are pretty damn good. They're cel shaded to give the anime feeling, and it works very well. The character designs stay true to the series and really do look like they were taken straight from the episodes themselves. The animation is exceptionally smooth, the movements of the models are fluid and it has all the charm of the battles from the series. Certainly they don't push the Cube to it's limits, but it's very nice nevertheless. The backgrounds are nice as well, some locations taken from the anime and some made up for the game. There is a small amount of animation in the backgrounds, such as Gamabunta smoking his pipe and such. Small additions like these give the arenas a nice feel. Nothing to complain about here at all.

    Audio

The music in the game is, for the most part, of high quality. The tracks are fast paced and suit the fighting pretty well. Some more than others, some tracks seem more genereal fighting game style than Naruto style, which is a shame. I personally would've liked to hear some tracks from the series, possibly remixed. All the music is original however, I didn't hear any tracks from the series at all. The audio is alright, especially if you don't watch the series, but it's a bit of a letdown for Naruto fans when you can't hear the pumping music of the series, that would've made battles real naruto style.

    Gameplay

The gameplay is, like so many other things in this game, of high quality. It's flashy, fast, fluid fighting fun. The control system is rather simplistic, with the B button being primary attack, A being secondary (either a ranged attack for most characters, or special moves for others), Y being grab and X being the special move button. That's right, you can execute an unblockable move which takes off 30 - 60% of the opponents health with one button. I can hear the groans from fighting fanatics already. However, despite this, I've found the game still holds it's own as a respectable fighting engine. Each character has a 4 or 5 hit combo which can be executed by tapping B a few times. However, there are other combos which can be stringed along for 8 to 10 hits, even ending with the super, which adds a tad more complexity to gameplay. It doesn't have the complex systems of Soul Calibur, Tekken or Street Fighter, but it's understandable given the frantic 4 player mode.

Yep, 4 players in the ring at once. You can change targets by tapping Z, otherwise it's pretty much like 1 on 1. The exception being because of 4 people in the ring it's extremely frantic. You can be caught off guard with a super move in the back, or hit by shurikens while fighting someone else. It certainly gets the adrenaline pumping, and is great fun. I have a complain about the camera though, and that is that is sometimes swings wildly around the arena whilst you fight. It's trying to get the best angle to get all people in the view, but it's annoying when your forward switches to backwards halfway through a combo. Apart from that the 4 player mode is excellent. Almost on par with SSB:M. Not quite, but almost.

The characters themselves are cool and have most of the moves they had in the show. Those characters that havn't really fought much, Iruka, Sakura and others, have had moves created which I feel suits them perfectly. Because of the simplistic fighting system, they all have similar moves. This of course means you can pick up any character you wish and be proficient with them, even if you've practised with another. On the other hand you can't sit there and master a single character, basically once you've mastered one you've mastered them all. Some characters have special moves unique to them. Sasuke's Katon and Neji's Kaiten as examples.

Basically it's a fun fighting game with the big bonus of supporting 4 players at once. It's not a deep fighter with hundreds of seperate combos, counters, specials, supers, dodges, and every other thing. But it's solid. If you're a Naruto fan, buy it now, what are you waiting for? For you I rank it 10/10, you want to be Lee facing Gaara? Nows your chance! On the other hand, you Mr. Fighting Game fan, will still probably have a nice time with this, but it won't contain the depth you'd be looking for in a fighter. There's no need to spend hours learning heaps of combos, and as such you'll most likely grow bored of it. I give it an 6/10 for you. This averages out to be 8/10 for someone who doesn't care either way, and I'd say that's accurate.
