Mario Party 4 | 4.8 0 comments |
by King ing from Southampton, , England | Dec 8, 2007 |
THE GOOD: + Lovely Graphics + Very fun minigames + Cool boards + Lots of modes + One of the best GC multiplayers + Cool collectable figuresTHE BAD: - Can get repetitive - Sometimes difficulty is unfair
SUMMARY: Mario Party 4 is easily the best Mario Party I have ever played and one of the best multiplayers on the Gamecube. It boasts amazingly fun mini-games, gorgeous visuals and well-designed boards. This is incredible.
GRAPHICS
 These graphics are awesome. Period.
Mario Party 4 is one of the best looking games on Cube (one of the best, not THE best). The levels are packed with detail, characters look bold and colourful and the animations are smooth and the game has no slow downs. This is probably better than Mario Sushine's graphics, its just so well done. Nintendo proved the Gamecube could handle good graphics here. These are simply beautiful.
GAMEPLAY
Mario Party 4 is like a board game with your fave Mario characters.
Mario Party 4's gameplay is quite simple. Well acutally, MP4 has many modes for you to play on. Lets check them out. First, Party Mode. In Party Mode players play against computers or each other and take turns rolling a dice on a board map of their choice. They move the number of spaces according to the dice number. The boards have many spaces, such as Blue Spaces which give you 3 coins to ? Spaces which set off certain events. Next there is Story Mode. Story Mode is basically like Party Mode only its 1 player only and you HAVE to win to get a prize, which is a little figure to go with the figure collection of the character you won with. Each character has his/her own set of figures. Next, Minigame Mode. In Minigame Mode, you can play with CPU's or friends on any mini-games you have done in the Story/Party Mode. And you have all the Options and the Present Room (where you check the figures you've got) and lastly, Extra Room. In here you either play a special board or on some new mini-games. Mario Party 4 has loads to offer you and you will be playing for a very long time with all it's different modes. Great fun.
There is acutally no real story in Mario Party 4, so I'll skip that bit
BAD
Mario Party 4 is great fun, but you may get bored of it for a while.
Mario Party 4 is very good, so now we will cover its bad side. First of all, it can get repetitive. Sometimes, proabably when you've unlocked everything, you may play it for ages and just be in the mood not to play it. Sometimes the mini-games get repetitive and it doesn't make you want to come back every time, but you will after a while. Finally, sometimes the difficulty is unfair. True. If the game is set to hard, it becomes WAY too difficult for the average player and if set to easy the game is too easy. Normal is kind of unbalanced as sometimes it is quite hard for normals players but exprienced MP players should own at Normal mode.
OVERALL One of the finest Multiplayer games I have ever had the pleasure to play. Fun, beautiful and very essential. If you like Mario and all his funny party spin offs or liked the N64 versions, this is a must buy for you.
Why you so surprised? This game deserves the greatness of a Players Choice.

THE GOOD: Some of the Mini-games kick ass and some levels look like good stuff thanks to graphics.THE BAD: The annoying bits such as gay boards, gay Mini-games and gay, if there is any, Storyline. Also, lets badmouth the difficulties. Easy: Completed in less than 2 days. Normal: Completed in 2 weeks. Hard: God, you really don't need that. If there's harder, then this game is impossible, well, the difficulty anyway. SUMMARY: Well, it's okay but we could try putting in more than 8 gay characters and more than 7 boards and can we just have DIFFERENT GAMEPLAY! God, it's the same as numbah 3, which sucked. This only has a few mini-games and some of them are good but the rest are just cardboard cutouts of other mini-games from past Mario Parties (which sucked). Now, we'll move on to gay Story Mode. It's someone's birthday and you need to give them gay gifts we probably don't need. Win a board, face the geek running the board, beat his ass in and we get a gift. With easy, you don't even try and you kick their ass. With normal, same thing except we have to do better wheras if we do it on hard, then we'll never beat it unless we give it a try. Long story short: Rent it if you love the game. 2.6. |

Mario comes back in probably the worst game of his existance. | 1.7 0 comments |
by NSX from , WA, United States | Sep 9, 2004 |
THE GOOD: Somewhat fun mini-games, nice graphics, an acceptable multiplayer mode...THE BAD: Poor single and multi-player. The rest of the game for the most part... SUMMARY: 2002. Mario Party 4 is released. I was looking forward for a good comeback after Mario Party 3's collapse, but in fact, it got worse. Very worse. With only 50 mini-games, which all are mirror images, and the worst storyline out of any Mario games that I have played, even though there really is none. This game is lucky if it even deserves a rental. There is no doubt that this game is a maybe bad start the Mario Party let alone Mario in General series for the GameCube's existance. If you are an absolute Mario fan, who wants every single one of the Mario games ever, than go ahead. Others, avoid it as much as possible. |

THE GOOD: New adventure as always More Items 2 extra characters added from Mario Party 3 All new 50 mini gamesTHE BAD:
Mini games aren't that goodSUMMARY: Mario Party 4 is the 4th game in the series from the others that were on N64. The Mario Party games were a huge success on the Ninetendo so I knew it wouldn't be long until Mario Party 4 would be launched on the Gamecube.
For people that dont know anything about the Mario Party games I will put you out of your misery and say here. In all Mario Party games your main objective is to get the most stars. You play on a story board with 3 other characters (including you makes 4) and you take it in turns going over the board in seach of stars. Once everyone has taken a turn the round ends and a mini game will appear. In mini games your aim is to try and win them and earn yourself coins which is normally 10 but it can vary. With the coins you get in the mini games you can buy stars which you may only gain acess to by going over the tile that toad is on (toad has all the stars) and you may buy a star of him for 20 coins. I hope that explains what Mario Party is to the users that have never played the games before.
Back to the review
This game has yet again been different from the previous Mario Party games as the story mode changes again. It is very long like always which is brilliant. It is actually a very good length for a game. Once you have completed the game with one character you have mainly finished the game but wot is very good is you can do the same thing 7 more times but with a different charcater. Boring I hear you say well no because completing it with another character will unlock some little decorative stuff which for some gammers will be great because they would like to complete the game 100%. But most of us would prefer not too do this as it can be boring but like I said for the die hard Mario Party fans having this extra option is brilliant for them.
The mini games have also been updated and there are now 50 new ones for us to play. Most are great and throughrly enjoyable to play but there is a few where you can see that the creaters of this game were runnning out of ideas. There are 50 mini games which isn't a great number but it's good enough and with all the other stuff in the game I don't think you need much more.
Boards are full off imaginative ideas and are big having lots and lots of options you wont get bored from playing on these boards all though some are quite hard to win on. All of the boards are brand new and have neva been seen before which makes it that little more entertaining for us users that love the Mario Party Games.
2 player mode is just as good as the story mode though. You have probably been reading all these other reviews by people and you read them say that story mode is rubbish well it isnt its just it can get a bit boring. Now about the 2 player mode. 2 player is exactly the same as story mode but you dont actually go through a story. What i mean is in 1 player story mode you have to play on story boards for 20 rounds well thats what you do in 2 Player mode the only difference is that there is 2 players and not just 1. But also in 2 player mode there is the option to just play the minigames and not playing on a board game this is very usefull if you like a certain mini game you could now play it as much as you want.
There are now 8 charcaters in the game compared to the useral 6 as Waluigi and Daisy have been added to the game. Waluigi is couisin of Wario and looks the same (but not as round and pudgy) and Peach looks the same as Peach but dressed differently and broun hair instead of peaches blonde.
Also more items have been added to the game like the mega mushroom. These are very useful in in the boards and can give the user a advantage over the other players so Mario Party 4 is also tatical.
Verdict
If you like the previous Mario Party games then you should like this too it really is a good enjoyable game for all ages.

My new Mario Party 4 review | 4.0 0 comments |
by MrSponget from , , Private | Jul 5, 2004 |
THE GOOD: Graphics, gameplay, the mini games are great. THE BAD: Sound is ok but, it can get annoying. This gets repetitive. SUMMARY: Now you're wondering why I'm making another review for this game. Well my other review had grammar and spelling problems. I also suger coated this game. What I mean is that I didn't say whats bad about the game.
Graphics 8/10 The grpahics were nice and decent. They weren't the greatest and nothing special.
Story 6/10 Well its like a party for all characters. Every time a character wins in a board they get a present. Not the best storyline but, this is a Mario Party game so, the story doesn't have to be great.
Multiplayer 9/10 This game has great multiplayer. Its fun to play the mini games with your firends instead of playing the game with the computer for some reason. The multiplayer is strong.
Mini-games 8/10 The mini games are fun to play and they require some skill to win. The problem with them is that when you play them a lot you'll get bored of them.
Sound 7/10 The sound is good. It could get annoying after hearing it a lot. IMO.
Gameplay 9/10 The gameplay is great. The mini games are great (Look at mini games for reason why) Its really fun. The events that could happen in the game keep this game strong.
Overall 8/10 This game had great gameplay, graphics, and mini-games. This game kept me occupied for a long time. I recommend you buy it or at least give it a try. |

The party continues on the Cube... | 3.6 0 comments |

THE GOOD: updated graphics, new minigames and play modes, new items to useTHE BAD: Too much emphasis on certain items, not as many minigames as before, some minigames aren't too good SUMMARY: This Mario Party installment is certainly the best looking now that it's on GameCube, but it seems to be missing that certain something that MP3 on N64 had. While there are several new minigames, and a few are really good, quite a few seem wither boring, uninspired, or like they've been done before. On the other hand, though, the new Bowser Games are fun to play, and Bowser's Big Blas is back! The regular board game-style play still works well with all the items, but the play puts too much of an emphasis on Mushrooms over other items, which makes for unbalanced strategy, although the 1P Story Mode makes up for it. It's still a good game, and I'd recommend it for new Mario Party players. If you still have MP3, though, you may want to rent MP4 first or wait until MP5 to determine if it's worth the upgrade. |

Not Much of a Party | 2.1 0 comments |

THE GOOD: It's a Mario game. It has his "zing" in it.THE BAD: Hmmmm...
Load times are extremely long for a GCN game. You can't play a 2-player-only game. It always has to have 4 players. Controls are very clunky. Game boards are too confusing to trek. The power-ups just seem like an excuse for not having enough ideas. SUMMARY: I saw this game and was very excited about it because of all the unlockable items and fun that I thought it had to offer. Instead, you get a clunky, boring, frustrating game that just doesn't live up to its prequel, Mario Party 3. The games are either extremely easy, extremely confusing, or extremely unfair. There are a few that I highlighted out so you could get a feeling of how awkward this game is. One such game is "Cliffhangers", a 2 on 2 game in which you have to climb a cliff and grip yourself for the oncoming winds which could knock you down a few feet. This game basically punishes you for not having the rumble feature on. If you have the rumble on, you just feel the pulse change and brace yourself from there. If it's off, you have an !!! to prepare yourself, which can get extremely confusing. And climbing the cliff couldn't be more chalky. Another game is "Booksquirm", a game where you have to find safe spots in falling pages to protect yourself. Since the game goes on for an infinite amount of time, you get extremely pressured after a long while and end up losing. Moving in this mini-game is awkward and just plain boring. One more confusing game is "Order Up", another 2 on 2 game in which teams are around a circle of Chinese boxes to get food, which may seem simple, but just gets downright stupid. Moving in this mini-game is like moving the hands on a clock and can get frustrating when the other team just wins for no apperent reason. Mario Parties 1 to 3 were definitions of "fun", but #4 gets over-the top additions like power-ups and even more confusing game boards and spaces which turn a fun night into a rainstorm. |
