THE GOOD: The Digimon cast from the first season, such as Tentomon, Gomamon, and Palmon, are in this game in the starting roster of Digimon, which is a welcome entrance to many die-hard fans of Digimon Season One.THE BAD: Fans of Seasons 2-4 will be disapointed, seeing as few characters from the seasons other than the main ones appear in this game. Also, some of the voice actors from the original season's have been replaced, making it feel somewhat odd to fans who are used to the original voices, but this doesn't effect gameplay in the slightest really. SUMMARY: Digimon Rumble Arena 2 is a sequel to the game for Playstation1, Digimon Rumble Arena. Unlike the original, Digimon Rumble Arena 2 has make it possible for up to four Digimon battle it out instead of two.
Firstly, the gameplay. The Digimon the player selects has a set amount of moves to choose from, and when enough DigiOrbs are collected, the player's Digimon can Digivolve into it's next form, giving it new moves and making it more powerful. Usually, there are a set amount of lives for each Digimon, and when a Digimon runs out, they lose. Last one standing wins. There are other modes of battle, some unlockable in the 1Player mode, which vary from getting Digieggs that randomly appear on the screen to staying on the upmost platform and knocking everyone off a certain amount of times.
In 1Player mode, after the first initial match, the player can select to go up or down. Going up is usually a more fidicult match than going down, and there's a whole map of different matches in 1Player Mode, and depending on which you choose, the final boss will be different.
There are many unlockable characters in the game, all of which are found in 1Player Mode. While the "Black" Digimon (BlackAgumon, BlackGabumon and BlackGuilmon), who are equal to their normal counterparts, appear randomly, the other Unlockable characters must be defeated in battle, all of which are found in the final match of 1Player Mode.
Multiplayer mode allows two or more players to battle each other out using different Digimon, with the option to choose what type of battle, limitations on the battle, and where it takes place.
The music of this game is very well done and fits the different areas quite well. My personal favorite is the opening music. The voice acting is done EXTREMELY well, which makes up for the loss of some of the original voice actors. All in all, I give Digimon Rumble Arena 2 4.8 out of 5. |
