THE GOOD: Mecha from various Real Robot and Super Robot series, including Gundam, Nadesico, Mazinger Z. The Excellence mech. Good battle scenes.THE BAD: Low replay value. The Excellence is a tad bit overpowered. SUMMARY: Super Robot Taisen R is another good strategy game.
As opposed to the SD Gundam G Generation series, which feature only Gundam, the Super Robot Taisen series uses mecha from various anime series that involve mecha. This time around, this includes Gundam, Nadesico, Daitarn 3, Mazinger Z, Gear Fighter Dendoh, Combattler V, and Shin Getter vs. Neo Getter.
It's map is more standard of a turn-based strategy game, as it is a grid. However, ranged attacks can indeed be used from a distance, although the mecha can't have just moved from its current position to use some long-ranged attacks, like rifles. SRT vets will know this already.
As the main character, the mecha he/she receives doesn't change, except for the final frame. The Excellence is a great mech to use, even if its a bit overpowered. Although I haven't played as Fiona, as Raul, the Lightning Frame is very very powerful.
The battle sequences are fun to watch as usual, although some are a bit repetitive. Funnels are especially fun to watch.
SRT:R suffers from a low replay value after you beat the game, but the playthrough is worth it. The final boss is annoying. Very annoying. |
