THE GOOD: The graphics are decent enough, I suppose...THE BAD: Everything else! SUMMARY: Remember Sonic Spinball? Yes, that super-frustrating Mega Drive game which was converted into an even more frustrating Game Gear game. Well, it's back - almost.
SEGA is going through a period of thinking it can release any new pile of Hedgehog droppings into the shops and get away with it. Of course, Target #1 is Nintendo's Game Boy Advance, which sees its relentless supply of terrible Platformers and Mario Kart clones. So now they decide to clone a less-popular type of game...
Does the GBA really need another pinball title? No! I mean, fine - had they made it original, it would have worked. But they didn't and it doesn't, respectively.
Of course, this game has the secret weapon of millions of fans with their "WOW COOL IT'S SONIC SO I'VE GOTTA BUY IT!!!" attitudes behind it, as well as the "DUDE NIGHTS IS IN IT AS WELL! COOOOOOOL!" idea. It's the perfect way to sell millions of copies of a Ł30-Ł40 game which should be selling for five quid - in the bargain bin (if ANY price would make this game classifiable as a "bargain").
The game is a standard pinball game which takes place primarily in the various Zones of Sonic Advance. While zooming through those amazingly detailed Zones for the first time, I could never have imagined that they would ever be used for something this pathetic. The gameplay is fairly simple, but the objectives are so boring that you're better of playing the free pinball game you get on most modern computers - at least it's pretty much free!
The originality of playing as Sonic in a pinball game soon wears off, leaving this game as the boring waste of a perfectly good cartridge that it is...
Only buy this game if you can find it for Ł5 or less - you may have a chance of not being disappointed then... |

THE GOOD: I don't think anithing unless you like pinball like me (to be honest, I like pinball a little bit.) THE BAD: Almost everything exept the new game in the Tiny Chao Garden SUMMARY: STORY MODE 4/10: Story Mode is hard. Fighting Knuxis hard. I am still on tails. The mode is a mess and not worth playing.
ARCADE MODE 7/10: Better than Story modes, you get to play 3 diffrent tables. SONIC, NiGHTS and The music monkey one. Sonic is just like Story mode. So thats a big deal. NiGHTS is good but a little bit girly, and The music monkey one is fun, but short and theres no ball saver.
SCORES 2/10: Ahh! Sonic gots 1,000,000 points in all modes! Tails has got 500thousend les, and Knux got 500thousend and keeps going on. I don't know what SEG means But I thinks it's SEGA with 500,000 points. big deal.
TRANING 1/10: All you have to do is pick a table and learn. This is for babies. TRANING IS FOR SHAMELESS GEEKS!
TINY CHAO GARDEN 9/10: It's the only mode worth playing. Theres another game! Yippee! Yahoo!
CAPPILOS 3/10: What is this???
Overall 4/10: Rubbish. If you want to buy a game like this, you need more reviews. C'MON! Dont buy this game. The only reason I bought it's because I thought It will be a game with wicked moves, but I was tricked. |

Sonic Spinball? Nah, but you're close | 4.0 0 comments |

Remember the game "Sonic Spinball" for the sega genesis? well give it some steroids and you've got sonic pinball party.
As with any sonic game, the story is pretty basic. the evil Dr. Eggman has captured your friends and put them under some kind of mind control.
how do you get your friends back, you ask? why, you beat them in pinball, of course! o_0
the story mode consists of short pieces of dialog that gives you your objective in the current pinball game. then you actually play pinball and try to complete your objective to move on.
the game plays quite well, being one of the few pinball games anywhere to be able to hold your attention for quite some time (especially if your a sonic fan).
within each machine you can activate all sorts of modes, mini games, and other sorts of ball bearing shooting goodness, that earns you boat loads of points.
there are 3 basic machines: sonic, nights, and samba di amigo. within each machine you can go onto different levels, which changes the appearance of the machine slightly, and changes the enemies. (in the sonic machine you can go through all of the levels of sonic advance ^^)
in addition to the story mode, there are a wealth of other modes to keep you busy. such as arcade, casino, and even tiny chao garden (it's basically the same thing from sonic advance 1 and 2).
Did i forget anything? good, cause it's time to break it down.
Gameplay: 4, whether you like pinball or not, this game is fun and entertaining. theres so much to do in one machine that you'll be occupied for hours just trying to activate everything. and if you want insane action, activate the multi ball, which releases 3 balls all at once on you...
Story: 2.5, dont let this low score deterr you, sonic games have never been big on story. just like any good sonic game, the story isn't the main draw.
Graphics: 4.5, this game offers some great visuals, displaying plenty of spice and color. the graphics rarely become boring.
Sound: 5, sonic music is some of my favorite music, and sonic pinball party has alot of my favorite music. along with the music are some classic sonic game sound effects, and some recognizable pinball machine noises, too.
Sonic pinball party offers a satisfieing 2D pinball experience that is hard to find anywhere else. you'll be hard pressed to find a pinball game as fun and challenging as this.
For its fun gameplay, colorful visuals, and sonic nostalgia, Sonic Pinball Party for the GBA earns every part of a solid steel 4, out of 5. |
