When it comes to RPGs the Gameboy Advance is certainly in no short supply. From your Golden Suns to your Breath of Fires, there is something for all tastes. From this vast sea comes another entry into the genre, a not-so-little game called Sword of Mana.
The overall plot is perhaps a little cliche at this point. The girl is somehow a kind of 'chosen', whose clan was killed by the dark lord guy and spends her life running and hiding until the bad guys effectively catch up to her. The guy is the fighter seeking revenge when his parents get caught in the mess and killed. The pair eventually meet up years later and find themselves in a fight against the empire.
Well, cliche it may be, but there are some genuinely interesting backstories in here and some of the characters really do present personalities and motivations that grab your attention. Some events in the game will really get to you as well, like the deaths of close friends or the conflict with the empire. The idea of the game pres...
THE GOOD: Extensive storyline. Great RPG mechanics. Good characters.
THE BAD: Some minor set backs stray the title from perfection. The plot can be confusing.
SUMMARY: Sword of Mana is not new. It is a port of an old Super Nintendo game, Final Fantasy Adventure. And what an excellent port it is, in my opinion. The gameboy adaption of FFA adds myriad of new features on to what was already a great game. Fans of the original will enjoy the memories, and newcomers will love the game for what it is: an almost perfect RPG.
The game is told in two halves, one is that of the hero and the other, the heroine. Both of these adventures intersect at many points during the story, with the gender opposite joining your party at intervals. Which ever gender one chooses, the story will be fundamentally the same, however to get the full story will require two playthroughs. The story itself is pretty clichéd, the hero trying to kill the lord which murdered his parents and put him into slavery and the heroine fu...
THE GOOD: this game is a spin off from the legend of mana for playstation. SOM has a way better story line. Nice Music Plenty of villans. two story lines. great graphics. cool weapons.
THE BAD: the graphics arent as good as legend of mana. but that dont matter the story makes up for the graphics in sword of mana. fighting can get boring but there are some cool monsters.
SUMMARY: Welll to say a few words. this is probaly one of the very best gba games and if you love rpg's this one is a must have. there have been a lot of attempts on gba to make really good rpgs. a few made it but take lunar legend gba. for example that game totally sucked becuase they tried to copy the ps one version.if they would done it over a little differant it would have been awesome but instead it was a totaly boring experience but atleast with sword of mana you wont get that bored.and the graphics are awesome for a gba.go buy it you wont regret this one if you like rpg's.
THE GOOD: this game is so good because has really interesting places and fight the wierdest monsters. Summary:in this game you are a prisoner in the dungeon in granz castle because the dark lord killed your parents. after the battle at the castle you try to escape but fall off the bridge. you have to go through a fantastic world to revenge your evil enemy dark lord.On the way you meet lots of interesting people and a variety of weapons and you can also use magic!
THE BAD: nothin really bad in this game
SUMMARY: no comment ecxept: THIS GAME ROCKS THIS GAME ROCKS THIS GAME ROCKS THIS GAME ROCKS THIS GAME ROCKS THIS GAMEROCKS.
THE GOOD: -The Puzzles, though easy, were fun. -Great Characters -Great Settings -Amazing Music
Overall a pretty good game.
THE BAD: -The dialogue was forced -The story stopped short at some points -You had to complete quests in a certain amount of time -Very few places to make Hot Houses -Gaeus was changed to Gaia (I miss Gaeus!) -Too hard to get the Seven Wisdoms Cards
SUMMARY: Although there were a few things I didn't like, I feel the good outweighed the bad. Personally, I feel the game was too short, because you could easily beat this game in under 6 hours, which is a very little amount. Although it provided alot of time consuming challanges, the puzzles were often too easy, and the bosses died very fast. The fact that the spirits took so long to use was a downside too.
Overall though, this game was definitely worth buying in my opinion. I recommend this game to anyone looking for a fast GBA RPG to play over a trip or just for fun.
THE GOOD: Playstation type graphics, Fun, Challenging puzzles, village missions are good,
THE BAD: some puzzles are too hard!
SUMMARY: This game is really good. although i have not yet completed it the gameplay so far has been excellent. With fantastic playstation graphics, just like the legend of mana game!! It's great fun to play. The music alone is worth the money. Some people say the game is too short or not enough weapons but i think otherwise. I have been playing 6 months and have found the bosses i have met so far HARD to defeat. A game destined to be as big as pokemon was!! THe game is quite hard to defeat, which i have not done for 6 months after i bought it at x-mas last year!!Really all i can say is this game is the best!!Suberb graphics, awesome music, long hours of gameplay, hard to beat bosses and puzzling puzzles! what more do you need!?
THE GOOD: The story line is very good, I really like some of the characters that you meet, the vareity of weapons that you gain throughout the game, Gameplay is pretty fun, I love to battle in this game (free style/roaming battle system), and you can chose from two main characters.
THE BAD: The game is to short, The final boss is not that hard, well infact the whole game is not that hard, limited 2 magics per Spirit..
SUMMARY: Finally they release Seiken Densetsu 1 in america, which is now called Sword of Mana. This is good game, but I wish they would of added more to it so it would be longer. The game was fun for awhile, but after you beat it, all there is left to do is get your classes up and weapons. The game play and battle system are probaly the best thing about this game. The story line was pretty good..I mean its based on revenge like almost every other game...The Dark Lord destroys your home when you are a kid..Then you are capruted tring to save the girl (if you are playing as t...
THE GOOD: Just about everything. You can upgrade your weapons as much as you want (forging), provided you have the Lucre (money) and the amount of the raw material. You have multiple weapons to choose from, so you can find your own fighting style and stick with it, although some enemies take no damage from your weapon of choice... You have multiple defensive statistics with each piece of armor, one stat against every attack trait (slash, bash, jab, magic), and these can be upgraded by tempering your weapon. There is also much more that can be said about this game.
THE BAD: The boss battles are too easy. Some people consider that to be a good thing, but then again, some people (like me) don't like easy bosses. You can only temper your weapons and armor a limited number of times (depends on the type of weapon and the raw material). You have to have at least 1 of the raw material your weapon/armor is made from to temper it (I don't see why they can't just temper it without the raw materia...
SUMMARY: If you loved Legend of Mana, you'll love this game too! This game is somewhat like Legend of Mana except this game actually has a storyline! :audience gasps: Well anyway, all you Mana fans will love this game, except the part where ya hafta pay for stuff that you temper & forge while blacksmithing.
In this game, you can choose to be the hero or the heroine. Both of thier stories intertwine together to make one big adventure. The girl, is part of the Mana Clan and the boy is a warrior avenging his parent's death. They don't sound like they'd fit together right? Well trust me it does! I can't tell ya anymore tough!
Buy Sword of Mana! Its great! Trust me, I'd know, I bought it didn't right? Oh yeah and seriously, you won't regret this one.
