Past my Expectations! | 4.8 0 comments |

THE GOOD: Many new Pokemon adds a little more fun to the game when you find a new one and attempt to capture it. The story line is alright but doesn't match up to the story lines of other games such as Harvest Moon. The graphics are good compared to versions such as Blue,Red and Yellow. The many new features such as running shoes and the Premier Ball (Even more balls have been added) have a positive effect on the gaming experience. Creativity in the gyms and landscape and top notch graphics encaptures and satisfies Pokemon addicts and the casual Pokemon fan. The new features on the bicycle (Now you have the choice of two!) adds something. The ability to trade between Fire Red and Leaf green adds another layer of depth to interaction with fellow players. The addition of the Pokenav (As seen on the television series) gives you access to you're map and how many ribbons won in Pokemon contests and other achievements such as an addition to the Pokemon Hall of Fame by beating the Pokemon League. Worth every penny you pay and provides gameplay that will amuse you for a very long time.THE BAD: The monotonous music in every version in the Pokemon experience keeps the sound down on the GameBoy systems of many gamers across the globe. Sometimes frustrating missions, battles and Pokemon that are hard to capture keep you from advancing in the game such as: The Elite 4, trying to catch Feebas, The Trick Master's house and capturing legendary Pokemon mentioned below in the Detailed Comments section of this review. Only getting one Master Ball without using Action Replay or Gameshark codes which ultimately can damage you're game cartridge and system. Gamers who have not played a game in the Pokemon series would be clueless on how to play. And no day and night feature, or a telephone in the past games. SUMMARY: I really like this game and wasn't really surprised by the way the game started out but after that I noticed the many new tidbits added to the game to enhance the experience such as running shoes, new levels of fishing poles, a secret base and many accessories to add to it and to decorate it to you're liking such as, posters, dolls, mats, water balloons in every colour of the rainbow, and other miscellaneous items.
I liked the way some things changed. Some thing aren't meant to be messed with such as the method for catching Pokemon and gym battles and the map feature, the requirement to battle after you're eyes meet with another trainer's.
I really like the addition of a few new legendary Pokemon which will help you in link battles or against the Elite Four. The names of those new Pokemon are Rayquaza, Groudon, Kyogre, Latios and Latias, make for a good range of power in any one's lineup. I was surprised at the realism and relation to the series at the begging of the game becuase you have to rescue Prof. Birch from a rogue Poochyena by using one of Birch's Level 5 Pokemon obtained from a nearby basket. You get to choose between these three Pokemon to battle the Poochyena: Torchic, Mudkip, and Treeko (I recommend Torchic). You get to keep whichever Pokemon you choose to battle. It matched well and encourages people to watch the program for help on the game. Pokemon Eggs and breeding really come into play in this new quest in the land of Pokemon. And some Pokemon are only obtainable by egg.
And more on that secret base, gotta love that base. You can choose ANY base at ANY eligible location you want. As long as you have a Pokemon that knows Secret Power. You can choose 16 decorations of your choice to make you base probably the most customizable thing since sliced bread.
And the hi-tech looking battle tower is another added bonus. Basically the same idea for Battle Tower as the last Pokemon games, choose your level of play, choose 3 Pokemon and battle! Getting a certain amount of wins in a row can get you prizes such as Iron, Zinc, and Carbos. |

Shiny Milotic's Ruby Review | 3.7 0 comments |
by ShinyMilotic from Brisbane, QLD, Australia | Sep 29, 2007 |
THE GOOD: Great Graphic Introduction of Berries New 2 v 2 Battles Contests New Pokemon Fairly Good Story Line A New Evil Team Battle TowerTHE BAD: Few Pokemon From Older Versions to Catch Internal Game Problems No Day/Night Some Confusing Parts of the Game SUMMARY: Pokemon Ruby is a great overall game, but is probably worse then the previous generation, besides its graphics. Like the previous games Ruby has its own region, which is Hoenn, and there are 8 Gyms, The Evil Team(Magma), the Elite Four, The Champion and your rival to beat.
Some new improvements from the old games include contests, which are not easy and take some practice. These contests make the game last a bit longer, and there are rewards for beating them. Berries are used to make Pokemon compete better in these contests and blending berries with your friends to make poke-blocks and then versing them in contests is a fun addition to the game.
The Storyline is good fun, but isn't much different from previous generations of games. It involves you stopping Team Magma's plans at all costs, to save the Hoenn region.
2 on 2 battles are a great addition to the game and allow new strategies to be tested, seeing which two Pokemon work best together and how some moves can benefit each other. Battling with your friends 2 on 2 is also very fun.
After beating the game, you earn access to the battle tower, which is probably the most challenging part of the game, getting to 100 wins in a row can take a long time, but it will be fun the whole time. You can win some prizes from the battle tower which can be won nowhere else.
There are a few downsides to this game, like the glitch involving the internal battery running dry, causing all time based events like growing berries to fail. Also if you don't do some good training of your Pokemon up to the Elite Four you will find it very challenging.
There is no longer a day night system, it is always day time, which is a bit unfortunate, having day and night would have made it feel more realistic and make it possible for new features like some Pokemon only being seen at night.
There are some confusing parts of the game, like catching the 3 regis. It involves being able to read brail (it is provided with the game) and can be frustrating at times. Also, at the fifth badge you have to go all the way back to face your father's gym, which is confusing because you have to almost go back to the start of the game from the other side of the map.
Pokemon Ruby is a great game for Pokemon fans of all ages, it provides hours of entertainment and fun and I recommend that you don't miss the chance to play it and see the changes from previous games.

Pokemon Ruby Review | 4.5 0 comments |

THE GOOD: •Excellent Graphics •Choice of Gender •Built in game clock •Beauty Contests •Many hours of game play •2 on 2 battles •Many berriesTHE BAD: •Very challenging at some points •Annoying music •Not many Pokemon from older versions •Internal game problems SUMMARY: Pokemon Ruby is a great game overall. The game takes place in the Hoenn region where there are many new things to do. In the Hoenn region, there are 8 Gym leaders to fight and defeat, just like the previous games.
In addition to collecting all 8 Gym badges, Nintendo has included Beauty Contests. There are many new additions to Pokemon Ruby that trainers have not seen in any Pokemon game before. New kinds of berries growing on trees, the berry blender and even 2 on 2 Pokemon battles.
This game revolutionizes Pokemon games like no other Pokemon game has before.
However, there are glitches. The internal battery may run dry, meaning the in-game clock stops all together.
I give this game a 4.5/5. With 386 Pokemon to catch, Pokemon Ruby provides endless hours of game play, even after the Elite 4 has been defeated. Whether competing in battle, or in beauty contests, Pokemon Ruby is a great game that has something for everyone to enjoy. |

Yet another reason to own a GBA | 4.5 0 comments |

THE GOOD: -Lots of new Pokemon
-Much better graphics than the older versions
-Catchy music
-2 on 2 battles
-Beauty contests
-lots of random events and an ok plot line
-more legendary pokemon then the last gamesTHE BAD: -Like most of the other pokemon games, after you beat the elite four, there's not much to do
-They took out a lot of the pokemon from the older versions
-The game can get a little too frusturating at times with their puzzles
SUMMARY: This game can only be described in one word in my opinion: interesting. This game has lots of stuff to do and it will most certainly take hours over hours to see all of the stuff this game has in store for you. There's lots of places to travel to, and their atmosphere of the game is pretty cool. The places you go are fun to explore in, from a volcano to the desert, and even under the sea. There's also a lot of new things to do such as beauty contests, which seem like another game in itself. There's also some other cool feautures outside of the main game such as your own secret base where you can decorate it with a selection of tons of different items. This game is also kind of an RPG, because of a lot of the stuff you can do and how it might affect you later in the game.
I would rate this game a 9/10 because it's pretty fun to play and will keep you entertained for hours. I would've given it a perfect 10 if they not had removed a lot of the pokemon from the previous versions. |

THE GOOD: - More pokemon - Longer story than the others - 2 on 2 battles - Cool moves - Nice Graphics compared to the previous pkmn games - You can continue after the game itself is over - You cant easily breeze through it - You can capture GroudonTHE BAD: The game is still too traditional and it lacks being unique in its own way. Limit to catchable pokemon as usual. SUMMARY: Overall, Ruby is a solid game. Just like the other past pokemon games, the entire goal of the game is to defeat the Elite 4 and become a ultimate pokemon master. Can it get any more traditional than that? No, it cant. Thats one bad thing that happens with this game because its mostly the same thing, which definitely brings down the overall quality of the game.
But look past that and you'll see a beautiful game with lots of things to do, and a lot of fun attached to it. The goal of the game, as stated before, is to become a pokemon master, and now its also to defeat the rivals, who are known as Team Aqua. Its really fun to play because of the storyline and the new pokemon in it, so I would say get it because its worth it. |

Poke'mon Ruby | 2.7 0 comments |
by Kiker from , , Australia | Jun 3, 2005 |
THE GOOD: 2 on 2 battles. More Poke'mon thingies. Longer.THE BAD: After beating the Elite 4, there's barely anything to do. It's quite repetitive. Not all the Poke'mons are there. Uhhh, the move they use does the same damage all the time.
SUMMARY: Lastability: 7/10. God, you should see how hard the Elite 4 are. Also catching the Legendaries can be hard dagnammit. Graphics: 7/10. Hmmm, that's kinda the only other thing I liked about the game, but it's stillll boring. Sound: 3/10. If I ever hear one more Poke'mon entry sound, I'm gonna bust my SP apart. Seriously, they try to pop your ears out. Gameplay: 5/10. Well, it's simple. You walk around, catch Poke'mons and battle trainers and Gym Leaders, which I consider dull and repetitive. Overall: 2.7/5.0 Doing the same thing for like the 7th/8th installment is just plain rude. |

THE GOOD: The good features of this game include: Two-on-two battles Brand new pokemon New types of pokemon. Specific things I.E. Team magma Groudon Team aqua being the allies.THE BAD: The bad features are: Some of the pokemon seem ridiculas It can be a bit puzzling SUMMARY: The graphics onthis game are amazing and so is the sound track. The game will blow you away fromstartto end as you begin your journey through the world of hoenn. You will also battle against team magma, wich is specific to ruby. You can also choose to be a female or male, a downside to the game is there is no night and day. The clock changes to am or pm but it doesnt change night or day.Puzzles may get annoying at times but it just adds to the fun with you will get from this game. I would recomend you buy this game and get its equal saphire.

THE GOOD: the graphics are really good, the sound is good(the effects),lots of Pokemon to collect, lots of items to use also and it can be sort of challenging.THE BAD: it is just another Pokemon game with new characters, the action is so repititive,it is for a younger audience affter all. SUMMARY: Hey guys and girls! Just playing Pokemon. Now i know what youre thinking"Another Pokemon game?" Lets start of with the good. The graphics and sound are really well done! But this game is so repititive all you do is battle...run...catch...run...you get my point. It is fun for a while. But this game is so short and EASY!!!You will probably beat it in maybe a sitting or two. Overall i will recomend this game to Pokemon freaks out their but just be warned it is for a young audience therefor it is pretty easy.

The return of the king! | 4.8 0 comments |

Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire, the third installment in Nintendo's extremely successful Pocket Monsters series.
Does it live up to the hype? Let's find out!
Setting
Even many of us who preferred pokémon not for its story, but for its gameplay, like to see a good believable story along the way. Ruby & Sapphire deliver much more than expected in this category...
Atmosphere
The first and most important part of its setting is the Atmosphere. By that I mean how real the game feels. Well, this game certainly delivers on that more than the previous games did... NPCs react to events; if a cataclysm has occured, they AIN'T GONNA BE WALKING OUTSIDE LIKE NINNIES. And their doors'll be bolted shut too.
Towns are no longer restricted to always having a gym and at most 2 houses. The World Map is sprawling, and you'll constantly find yourself revisiting certain cities - I actually found it fun to do so, rather than FLY around, for once - and ignoring others. The pokédex has new data and a new function - size comparison - that makes it feel like you really are a field researcher, and not an errand boy for a Professor. I'd especially like to note what a good job they did with the mythology in this game, it equals G/S/C in most respects, and beats it in a few others. I could go on and on and on, but it'd be to excess; just try it for yourself. If there was anything this series had been lacking in before, it was this; but I think that The Pokémon Company took a lot of GOOD cues from the heyday of the SNES RPG. Atmosphere Rating: 10/10 - a job well done, Nintendo/GameFreak/Creatures!
Plot
The sustenance of the modern RPGunkie. Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire has nothing to wow audiences with, not much in the way of life lessons, and no epic journey. That's a good thing, because that would put the game on rails... But, there's enough of a plot that the life of a trainer is not simply ''Training, fighting...'' until after the Elite Four. I can't say too much about it without spoiling it, but it's a decent job. (The Magma and Aqua Gangs are MUCH better organized than the Rocket Gang!) Plot Rating: 8/10 - Pretty decent!
Setting Rating: 9/10 - Could be better, but definitely good.
Graphics
The game delivers quite well in some aspects - there is one route where the clouds in the sky reflected off the water is simply amazing (I have my secret base there for good reason.) In other aspects such as certain sprites, however, it is disappointing after playing a game like Golden Sun. Please notice that qualifier - after playing a game like Golden Sun. The graphics are very good on their own right, and quite remind me of SNES FX Chip days... The intro for the game is very mode 7-ish, only not as grainy. The pokémon themselves are excellent, and anyone who claims these are the same graphics as the previous versions needs to be hit with a wet trout - stylistically, they are similar, but these graphics are a leap ahead. Graphics Rating: 8/10 - Not the most beautiful, but certainly not the most ugly.
Sound
What can I say? The sound is much as the graphics - they are not Golden Sun's orchestrated etudes, but they have certainly come along. All of the tunes are quite catchy, and fit the mood of the game as they should. Sound Rating: 8/10 - Not the most beautiful, but certainly not the most awful.
Gameplay
These have always been the meat 'n potatoes of this series, and thank Jebus for that! The one player game is much as before - although it is a bit harder than it used to be - but the possibilities for link battle just shot through the roof! 2 on 2 gameplay's a little broken - some pokémon are just way too dangerous (think Kyogre's El Cheapo now? Try fighting a Kyogre and Rhydon on the same team. You'll lose 99% of the time as of this writing.) 1 on 1, though, is the same great Pokémon Gameplay we know and love... with a bunch of new moves that are pretty sweet, like Hot Wind and Blaze Kick, and a retooled stat system, traits, and personalities. Stats no longer determine if your pokémon is odd-colored (aka Shiny, Rare-colored, or albino) nor are Special Attack and Special Defense running off of the same stat anymore. There are other changes too technical for a review. Traits are like always on Pokémon Powers and PokéBodies from the Card Game; a pokémon with the Floating trait, well, floats, and is immune to any Ground type attacks. Personalities modify any 2 of your stats in a trait by 10% of the original value, so make sure your pokémon gets a bonus in the stat they need and a subtraction in a stat they don't! Long story short, this game continues to prove why it is not kiddy, simply by the complexity and depth of its PvP battles. Gameplay Rating: 10/10.
Final Rating
My rating system is as follows: 10% Sound 20% Graphics 30% Setting 40% Gameplay
Using that, my final exact score for this game is a... 91/100!
That means a lot - using this rating system, a 90 is extremely rare for me.
Rent or Buy?
If you can't tell by now, you probably shouldn't be reading... Buy! If you can finish AND get bored with this game in 7 days or less, I will be most amazed.

The best Pokemon game ever! | 4.7 0 comments |

| Sep 12, 2004 |
THE GOOD: * Great graphics * Great story * PokemonTHE BAD: * Way to many battles * To many caves/forests SUMMARY: If you like Pokemon you should play Pokemon Ruby because, this is the best Pokemon game ever! I would recommend this game because: In my opinion, it has the best GBA graphics ever. You don't just fight wild Pokemon, but trainers and Gym Leaders. You collect gym badges. You pick if you’re a boy or a girl. You also collect and trade Pokemon. You can bye and sell items. There are two-on-two battles, and regular battles. You can use a game link cable to battle with a friend. You can have a secret base, and you can decorate it! This game has weather conditions like rain and sunshine. I think anybody can enjoy this game. This game is Rated E for everyone. |
