Lunar Legend | 3.5 0 comments |

THE GOOD: Nice story line, good graphicsTHE BAD: a small world= shorter game, can't drop items, get attacked every five seconds, not the best version of the game SUMMARY: The story of Lunar has now come to Gameboy Advanced and overall it is a welcomed addition to the system's collection of RPGs. Now, I have played this game before as Lunar: Silver Story for PS1, but to be fair I won't make comparisons. Graphics: This game looks good on GBA with some very nice animation and some small cut scenes. Spells aren't as impressive as the golden sun series but your characters do actual hit opponents. However, battle scenes are very 2D with little depth in the backgrounds. (3.75/5) Gameplay: controls are easy to learn, items are collected in a mass area for everyone to use but they can't be dropped for some reason. This game is fun to play and it should have you hooked for hours. However, battles are random and numerous so it gets annoying. Getting from point A to point B doesn't take much brains to figure out and bosses are a piece of cake if you know your character's abilities. Finally the world of lunar and the game length seems awefully small and short. (3.5/5) Plot: This game has an interesting story line despite the fact there are few plot twists. Character conversions are kept relively short, and like most games, it starts off with a simple adventure that turns into so much more! (4.0/5.0) Sound/Music: Nothing very impressive here since music and sound are kept to a few basic music tracks and sounds. There is Luna's singing however so that's nice. Overall completely average (3.5/5) Replayability: In this game, you have all sorts cards to find. If you find them all, special things will happen. Other than that, not much else to do. (3.0/5.0) |

THE GOOD: The graphics and the cut scenes. -The people are good looking. THE BAD: -The characters talk a bit too much -It's confusing when you have to do things -Looking for things is a real pain -The bosses are too hard for beginners SUMMARY: Lunar Legend is a really great game! But it has to be tweaked a little to be put right. RPG games are really fun to play and all but this game isn't just what it's made out of in the other Lunar games.
Pros: -It's one of the newer RPG games for the GBA, at last. -It has good graphics and cut scenes -The battles are more animated than most GBA games. -The plot is easier to follow with the guide and book and not as hard as most games. -The characters have neat movements. -The guys are super-cute!
Cons: -Unfortunately, you have to be Alex most of the time, no matter what gender you are. -The characters talk too much and have the least sense of humor. -It's harder than heck to find things, considering the changing climax and it's also hard to do things because sometimes they don't tell you what to do and you eventually have to talk to everyone and consider what the people in your party want. -There's an overload of monsters you have to fight. You may gain levels and get silver and cards from it, but they're annoying and you die a lot in the process.
Let's go through the rating thing:
-Plot=4.5: It's not a very original plot and it was made just for this game since this is another added to the series so they have to take on from the original goals and put it in this game. -Music=3.0: Very repetitive music and not very good. You can hear the same pieces over and over in different places. But if you listen to if and stick with it for a long time, you might like it. Some of it is really good. But the boss music when you're at a frustrating one might make you cry out "Oh, gosh I'm doomed..." and then you wouldn't have any time to enjoy any of it. -Characters=5.0: They have good personalities and they have a variety of characters in this game to like and they each have a unique personality. It's fun to see what they have to say so you really know them better the more they talk. -Graphics=3.5: The graphics aren't bad and they have a lot of scenes that would make the game more succesful. Nall is the best. He's so cute! So are Alex and Nash! Luna is cool and...yeah... -Controls=4.5: It would've gotten a full 5 if it haden't been so hard to figure how to give things to my characters and view things. The controls aren't very obvious. But you can have fun walking diagonally. -Bosses=1.5: They would've had more points but the people that make games should know that beginners need practice and they don't want to go against a really hard boss. There's no energy meter for the boss which makes it even more frustrating and sometimes the boss may seem invinsible! (Especially the Evilmist. I can't beat it! ) -Attacks= 4.9: The attacks the characters have are really well made! Alex's Swordance and Windirk; Nash's Riot and Luna's Goddess and Tranquil attacks rock! They have a good combo. 2 people (If you got to the point where Ramus goes to own the store) do the damage with their Magic attacks and weapons and just a regular attack and one does the group healing and powering. It's a good team combo. -Items= 3.5: Good weapons and armor. They can all help you in battle, but it's also very frustrating on certain bosses where every hit counts and you miss.
That's merely it...SIGN MY GUESTBOOK AND I'LL SIGN YOURS!

THE GOOD: Great graphics for the GBA excellent character developmentTHE BAD: The Arts gauge difficulty SUMMARY: Its story is pretty good, if a little predictable. I won't spoil anything, though. The story is pretty good, actually, and the character development is superb compared to many other RPG games.
The arts gauge was the added "bonus" The thing is, almost all of the characters have an alternate "arts gauge" manuver (I never knew until I read the nintendo power) for you to discover (though i've only found one). The problem is, your magic is more powerful than the arts gauge, making it worthless by the end of the game.
The main character seems to get a lot of powerful moves, too. I personally don't want too much power shifted to someone alone...
For hardcore RPGers, this would be too easy. The final boss isn't remotely difficult whem compared to some other RPG games. It is also quite short in length, so it doesn't have the big "bang" for the buck.
So it is a good game overall and is a pretty good game to get at current press time. It gives a good bang for the buck, giving about 15 hours of gaming, and is quite easy for RPG beginners. This is excellent for a GBA game in my opinion. You might want to consider Golden sun 2 instead when it comes out, as it would probably be more difficult and possibly more enjoyable than Lunar Legend. |
