Breath of Fire II

I haven't played Breath of Fire I so now you'll be reading a review in only one angle. I don't know how to compare this game to the previous one but I'm sure that this one is a bit good than the other. I think it's obvious that when you create a part II, it must be a lot better than the first one. There are 8 main characters in the game that you may control in the entire story but the main player is always Ryu. You could gain the support of other characters as you advance through the game. Unluckily, you can't customize their looks and abilities. When you level up, their abilities level up on their own. You can't choose whether you want this to level up or to leave the others as it is. But you could change and choose items, weapons and armors for them. Anyway, other skills could be affected by the armors or pendants you wear. As far as freedom is concerned, you are free to do whatever you want, but obviously you can't move on to a new place without finishing your current tasks.

THE GOOD:
Great characters, good story.

THE BAD:
Boring battles, chibi powah.

SUMMARY:
I love it but I might be biased, so I decided to write on its many aspects.
By the way, NEVER (or almost never...) compare a game to another one, it's screwing up the whole originality purpose or whatever it's supposed to be. Well, most of the time.
This game has eight characters you can control plus a hidden one. They are developped enough for us to enjoy them and yet there are some things written between the lines. The story is interesting and it evolves well even though it's not truly original. The graphics aren't great but it's not butt ugly either. For me, the battles are boring because they are highly repetitive AND you get to fight a monster every three steps. Even though the characters look GREAT while they're fighting, it does get lame to see them do the same stuff over and over again. If you want to enjoy a dungeon music, you'll have to stay where you are to avoid been interrupted by monsters. ...

THE BAD:
Awfully frustrating random-battles

SUMMARY:
Graphics: Primitive overworld, but good-looking characters, great enemies and bosses and some nice spells.

Sound: Not much to say about the standard sound-effects, the music on the other hand is brilliant, with a high number of great tunes.

Story: Great stuff, that is full of surprises and plot-twists, and makes you really care about the different characters you meet.

Gameplay: Very similar to Breath of Fire, with much exploring, battling and talking to do, and it all is a joy to play, at least as long as you donùt experiences the horrible random-battles. Still, the gameplay is as a whole excellent.

Lifespan: The game is long, there is lots of levelling-up to do, and there are three differet endings to see.

THE GOOD:
Nice graphics and music, a successful port over of the original SNES game.

THE BAD:
Absolutely no aspect of this game is better than any aspect of Golden Sun, nothing too exceptional, and far too many random cambats.

SUMMARY:
A rare game here: A sequal that actually improves on the original.

Like the original SNES made Breath of Fire, this vastly superior sequal is going to the GBA as well.

There's no denying that this is a very good game, the music and graphics are all classic SNES and so are completely acceptable, and the effects of weather are great as well (clouds, thunderstorms),

Its just, when compared to the majestic Golden Sun, this game falls against it almost as much as the first game did. Golden Sun is graphically better, more exciting, more fluid, more fun to play (you can move diagonally) and everything (especially the battles) look a lot more 3D. The music is also far superior to Breath of Fire 2's impressive soundtrack.
