The good old SNES. This system was home to many great enduring RPG titles such as the Final Fantasy 4-6, The Secret of Mana, and one of Marios's first non-platforming games, Super Mario RPG. among these titles, one stood out higher than the rest, the name was Chrono Trigger. Some call it the greatest RPG of all time, but personally I didn't really think it was that much better than the rest. Some of you may have just smashed the computer in anger, but hear me out and I'll tell you why later on in the review.

Now this story is set in the year 1000, in the beginning at least. Then some chick makes a teleporter (pretty advance technology for the time when people still wore cloth sacks as clothes) for the city's 1000th year festival. Then you come in. Your name in the game is Crono, and no, thats not a typo, but you can change it to make it whatever you want. Your walking to see the new teleporter when you bump into a girl named Marle. You help her find her...

THE GOOD:
  • Fantastic pacing
  • An impressive soundtrack which never fails to fit the mood
  • Allows the player to proceed through the story at his or her own pace
  • A simple, yet effective battle system
  • The script is well written; and improved from the previous releases
  • Time travel allows for a completely unique method of story-telling
  • DS Mode is a great new option which keeps the screen uncluttered during combat and allows the use of the stylus to select battle commands
  • 13 Different endings to unlock, adding replayability
  • Very accessible for newcomers
  • Monster Arena is a neat addition

THE BAD:

  • The new dungeons and side quests are repetitive
  • The difficulty, while having the ability to customize it, leans towards the easy side of the continuum
