: : : : : Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow is the sequel to 2003's Aria of Sorrow and the first entry in the action platforming series for the Nintendo DS. The story once again centers on Soma Cruz as he becomes the target of a mysterious cult plotting to resurrect Dracula. Players become Soma as he explores the cult's base of operations in 2D side-scrolling action where levels are all linked together to form a giant map.

Soma's ability to absorb the souls of his fallen enemies retains from Aria via the Tactical Soul system, allowing players to mix and max a wide variety of skills categorized into Bullet, Guardian, Enchant, and Ability. These are all activated differently during gameplay depending on the enemy soul, and increase in effectiveness and strength based on the number of that particular soul Soma has absorbed.

Dawn of Sorrow utilizes the DS touchscreen by requiring players to draw a magical seal in order to defeat boss enemies and absorb their souls; failing to do so properly causes the boss to revive with a small portion of health, forcing players to land another killing blow.

Completing Dawn of Sorrow allows players to start a new game in control of a team of three characters from the storyline. Only one character appears on screen at a time, but players can switch between them during gameplay at any time to utilize their unique abilities.
