"More than graphics, gameplay is what makes or breaks a fighter. UFC's fighting engine is an interesting mix of 3D beat-'em-ups like Tekken and traditional wrestling games such as Wrestlemania 2000. While the fighting system isn't as smooth and fluid as many of the upper-tier Dreamcast fighters like Virtua Fighter 3 and Soul Caliber, it's still pretty impressive. Aside from the more typical array of punch and kick combos, the game's take-down system, such as its grappling moves, is both intuitive and entertaining."
"...UFC is the first fighting game to offer genuinely lifelike fights, with a graphics style and control scheme that reflect the gritty reality of a no-holds-barred cage fight. "
"Aside from playing as the actual UFC fighters, there is also a career mode, where you can create and name a fighter, then take him through several levels of sparring. By sparring, you earn points that are used to beef up your character and purchase new moves. The character can then be loaded into the game's other modes. "
"...does an admirable job of making the fighters look, act, and fight differently... an easy-to-learn control scheme... really comes together as a two-player game... The character models and textures in the game are top-notch..."
"Movement is another strong point in the UFC arsenal. Taken from hours and hours of match footage, consultation with fighters, and actual motion capture, the bouts breeze along at a silky smooth 60 fps... and that game isn't quite finished yet!"
