The tale of Oedipus, passed down from generation to generation in ancient Greece, all in one book. Oedipus, heir to the Thebes throne, was put on a mountain and left to die after the King of Thebes went to an oracle and heard that his son would kill him. A shepard from Corinth found him on the mountain while tending to his flock, and brought him to the king and queen or Corinth who then adopted him. At about the age of twenty, he went to see an oracle who told him that he would kill his father and marry his mother. To solve this problem, he moved away from Corinth. While and the road, he got into an arguement with his biological father and ended up killing him, still oblivious to the fact that it was actually his father. As he went further down the road, he met a sphinx. He solved the sphinx' riddle to lift the plague from Thebes. When he returned to Thebes, he was given the title of King, and because there was already a queen, he married her. These three stories included in this book tell of the gradual actualization that Oedipus reaches.
