Part of the "Oprah's book Club", this book tells the story of an all black town in Oklahoma, Ruby. Founded by the decendants of free slaves and survivors in exodus from a hostile world. But, when battle ensues with another group of exiles, only miles away, causes violence in Ruby. And the inhabitants of Ruby soon learn paradise is not so easily gained.
