Cordless Wheel Mouse Roundup - PAGE 1
Anthony Roberts - Monday, July 3rd, 2000

Introduction

Cordless mice are not exactly a new idea, but not all technology improvements are visible to the naked eye, and digital radio technology has made cordless mice something worth considering. The original cordless mice employed infrared technology, which led to line of sight problems when placing the receiver relative to the mouse. Now, with radio frequency as the vehicle of signal relay, receiver and mouse need not be limited by line of sight, and that really makes the concept of cordless freedom fly.

But whether these cordless wonders are going to take off is a question of whether they can perform on par with their corded brethren, and that’s just what we’re going to explore today, as we compare the Logitech Mouseman Wheel and the Microsoft Cordless Mouse.

Logitech's Mouse Man Wheel

Anyone who sees the new Mouseman Wheel design is bound to be struck by the beauty of its space age, and curvaceous shape. The Cordless Mouseman Wheel just amplifies the “wow” effect because it lacks the decidedly unstylish mouse cable that graces nearly every desktop today.

Logitech's Slick Wheel Man Mouse
The design of the mouse is for more than just aesthetics, it fits nicely into our average sized hands, and has a nice feel to it. Your index and pinky fingers rest easily on the rubberized sides of the mouse, which gives you a more responsive and firm control over the mouse. The wheel is light, but lacks the more decisive click of Microsoft mice. The mouse is equipped with a total of 4 buttons, one placed just within reach of the thumb, and during our tests we found the thumb button to be a lot more convenient then we would have thought, and all of the buttons had a light feel for effortless clicking. In my eyes – and to my hand- the mouse was a sheer ergonomic delight.
