XFX GeForce 7800 GT - PAGE 6
Tom Karpik - Thursday, August 11th, 2005

Doom 3

In Doom 3, there is a clear distinction between the generation classes. The last-generation X850 XT PE and 6800 Ultra flirt with one another at the bottom of the pool, while the current generation 7800s take the lead. Once again, the GTX's lead over the GT is greater in the non-AA/AF resolutions, whereas the difference becomes less pronounced once we enable AA/AF. The 7800 GTX is starting to look like an unwise purchasing decision considering the marginally better performance but much higher price when compared to a 7800 GT.

Half-Life 2

Half-Life 2's video stress test demonstrates to us that the 7800 GTX can still pull in some worthy differences over the 7800 GT. While the two cards start off equally at 1024x768, the 7800 GTX creeps away from the GT as we increase the resolutions. The 6800 Ultra, as usual, places last, while the X850 XT PE places third.
