A new series for 2003
It's the middle of 2003 and most of you have already seen Thermaltake's latest revision of their Xaser series of cases. If you've read our review of the Xaser II A6000A last December, you'll already be familiar with Thermaltake's overall strategy for cases. The Xaser II series was based on a case design similar to the Chenming/Antec design that has become one of the most used OEM designs ever. This time around, Thermaltake has switched to another case design that is reminiscent of the previous Xaser series, with enough twists to make this a suitable successor to that line.
Today we're looking at the V2000A, which is made out to be the "top of the line" version of the series. This version is a silver aluminum enclosure with a stylized side window. The lower end V2000 model has no side window, but the side panel does have a nice lightning embossed design on it. There's also a V1000 series that comes in a blue or black colour.
First Impressions
With dimensions of 20.9" X 8.1" X 20.5", the first obvious impression is big, Very Big. When I picked up this "Very Big" case and was impressed with how light it was for a case this size. Made almost entirely of aluminum, this case comes in at a very impressive 8.5 kg without power supply. When it comes to appearance the V2000A stands out very nicely.
While some of the case's minor plastic parts are silver painted, Thermaltake uses the natural color of the aluminum for the overall look of the case. Also notice Thermaltake adds a red aluminum back drop to the front panel for added accent and contrast. Looking at the side panel you can see a very contoured case window allowing for a good view of the case innards.
