Thermaltake eSports Shock Headset Review - PAGE 1
Carl Poirier - Thursday, March 24th, 2011 Like ShareTt eSPORTS is a brand developed by Thermaltake to expand its presence in the gaming industry. This line incorporates input devices like keyboards, mice, headphones and more for competitve computer gaming sports. Today the Tt eSPORTS Shock headset, one of the four offered by the brand, is going to be put through its paces. This stereo headset is of the traditional style, with a headband at the top and a foldable microphone, similar to the Corsair HS1 that was reviewed recently.
Thermaltake does away with the USB port connection this time, as the version supporting this interface was already released under the Shock One name. The Shock headset instead supports traditional analog audio connection out of the package, featuring two 3.5mm jacks; one for the headset and one for the microphone. The advantages of analog over digital interfaces are quite clear; an analog peripheral plugs in a wider range of devices, including portable media players, for starters. However, a USB headset will provide consistent sound quality, regardless of the device powering it. Analog devices can still provide a richer sound than USB devices since frequencies are not limited to precise digital values. Nonetheless, the USB Corsair HS1 proved to perform very decently, so can the Thermaltake Shock do better? Retailing at a low $60, you expectations may understandably be reserved.
