Today we are going to be taking a look at the Calibre P980, from Sparkle.
At the heart of this video card is the veteran G92 GPU, originally appearing in October of 2007, powering the 8800 GT. At the time of its launch, the G92 offered about a 8800 GTX level of performance, for a much smaller price-tag, and with a smaller power requirement to boot. Since then, different configurations of the G92 GPU have powered eight different video cards -- the most notable perhaps being the 8800 GT and 9800 GT, which have been fixtures on the video card landscape for some time now.
The length of time that the G92 GPU has been on the market is testament to how successful the GPU has been for NVIDIA. The 8800 GT and 9800 GT have been solid contenders -- with ever-reducing price tags -- that have gone up against new GPUs from ATI. Today the 9800 GT remains a vital part of NVIDIA's current line-up.
However, while the G92 has been around for some time, today's 9800 GT video card is by no means just another same old 9800 GT that you've seen before. It's almost a mutant, you could say: it has some overclocking going on, a serious two-fan cooler, and even something that you might have never seen before on a video card.
Intrigued? Let's subject the Sparkle Calibre to further examination.
