I've been using the Samsung SM-348B for a couple of months now, and it's indeed a fine all around unit. However, the initial lack of Mt. Rainier format support was disappointing. That problem has now been corrected, since the latest flash upgrade (Version T506) for the unit's firmware now has Mt. Rainier format support included. That makes this unit even more attractive. Thought you would just like to know about the upgrade. Enjoy. TheBeagle in ChocolateTown - USA

This drive was installed as part of my Dell 4550 package in the spring of 2003. A couple of months after I got it, this drive played back both cds (factory-made and home-burned) and dvds (factory) with a lot of skipping and extra noise. After about 6 hours on the phone with 3 techies, we determined that it was indeed a hardware problem and that I needed a replacement. Great. I was still under Dell's 1-year warranty and so they sent me a new one and I swapped it. Over a year later, here I am and the exact same thing is happening. What gives? Now i need to buy a new one, but it's going to be something different, that's for sure.

im using my samsung combo drive for a year now but this couple of weeks when the Xp pro OS starts.. such drive doesnt work.

i checked my device manager in the properties of such drive, and it said.. "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

In Device Manager Right Click> Uninstall on the drive, then when that's done removing it click Action> Scan for hardware changes. It should reinstall it, and hopefully get rid of that error.
