Samsung 192MP LCD TV - PAGE 2

Out of the Box

The box itself was pretty small for a 19 inch monitor, similar to the way the 172X box is tiny for a 17 inch monitor. In fact, it wouldn't be a stretch to say that the 192MP box has the same volume as my aging Samsung 151S (15 inch) box.

The reason why the box can be so thin is due to two reasons. Firstly, this baby is THIN. Not quite 172X thin, but the side profile is much thinner than many (generally older) monitors. The major difference is that the power supply is now external, which can be considered either to be a good thing (easy to replace, thinner power cable from brick to monitor) or a bad thing (power bricks lying about can take up a lot of room). Secondly, the monitor folds up for easy storage (but not necessarily make it simple for you to hang it off the wall).

The monitor itself is not designed overly different than the 173MW, with a one-inch bezel and the speakers under the screen. Aesthetically, with the actual LCD panel taking up a larger proportion of the monitor relative to the speakers, the consensus around the office is that the 192MP looks superior to the 173MW- the plastics on the 173MW seemed to be the predominant feature where as the actual LCD display portion of the 192MP is the focus. However, we are still waiting for the day Samsung makes the speakers detachable from the monitor if you have no intention of using the stock monitor speakers but I suppose that makes the MP lose some of the elegance of being an one piece all in one solution.

The viewing angle on the 192MP is much better than that of the 173MW. Viewing the screen at an angle does not result in a darker color at one end - this effect was very pronounced with the 173MW where one side of the screen would take on a brown tinge on a white background. Very distracting. This was noticeable even by people who weren't reviewers - heck even our cleaning lady saw the difference.

The default color reproduction is also very good - it is comparable to the 172x and much improved over the 213T which has slight issues with color saturation. The 1280x1024 screen resolution is pretty standard for 17" to 19" LCDs. Again it would be preferable to see some 19" LCDs that were 1600x1200 native but alas this will have to suffice for now.
