Far Cry

One of the biggest hits in 2004 so far is Crytek's Far Cry and for good reason - it looks gorgeous and plays very well to boot. Far Cry has some of the best eye candy on the PC gaming scene at the moment and was bogging down even high end machines.

We chose a fairly intensive scene with the polygon count staying near the 150,000 range. One of the things that has won praise from nearly everyone who has seen the game is the water rendering so part of the path takes us along the river also. We avoid the AI as we have seen in other demos where they react differently and we wanted a consistent scene instead.

At 1024 we see that the two X800s being CPU bound- the X800 XT remains CPU bound even at 1024 with 4x AA and 8x AF. The framerates at 1600 with no AA/AF has the X800 XT more than doubling up on the 9800XT (58.50 vs 23.13).
