Introduction
Soltek has made quite the name for themselves in the last 18 months or so. Soltek made a debut in the low cost segment of the market but turned heads with speedy motherboards that gave the big boys a run for their money. Coupled with a reputation for good quality, good performance and low price, Soltek has positioned itself as a solid alternative to the usual group of Tier-1 motherboard manufacturers.
Like other manufacturers, Soltek has not overlooked the SFF market and are well past their first generation of Cubes with systems based on the Nforce 2 through the Nforce 3 250Gb. We take a look at their EQ3401aIntel 865G based cube today. The 865 based chipset has been overlooked with the introduction of the 875 chipset but truth be told the performance of the 865 is not too far behind that of the 875. The 865G chipset will also appeal to the crowd that is not planning to use the Qbic for gaming as the Intel onboard graphics are competent enough for desktop work, yet the lonely brown AGP port will be ready to accept the latest videocards should the need to upgrade arise in the future.
