OCZ PC4000 Gold Edition VX - PAGE 1
Tom Karpik - Tuesday, April 12th, 2005

It's been quite a while since we've reviewed an OCZ product here at Neoseeker. The last OCZ goodness I had my hands on was their PC4200 EL Platinum Edition, which by all means was the best RAM that I had ever used. Along with their OCZ ModStream 520W power supply, these two superb OCZ products are among the few things that you will always see on our test bench being used in a variety of systems. They are a staple here at Neoseeker.

One unsuspecting day, the FedEx guy delivered a fairly large box. Not knowing what was in store for us, we tore at it with our box cutters. Among lots of stuffing and full-size color posters of what we've dubbed "the power supply guy", we found a dual-channel kit of OCZ's PC4000 Gold Edition VX RAM. I was excited. For the first time in a long while, I had RAM on my hands that could possibly best the previous favourite, the PC4200 EL Platinum Edition.

Unless you've been hiding somewhere in a cave without Internet access, you will know that OCZ's Gold Edition VX is a top favourite in the enthusiast world right now. Couple it with DFI's LanParty NF4 motherboard, and you have a combination that can't be beat. In fact, OCZ used the very same series of motherboards to qualify the Gold Edition VX for low-latency/high-clock operation. The DFI LanParty NF4 (both models) is the only motherboard on the market capable of delivering up to 4.0V to the memory modules. It doesn't take long to come to the conclusion that this was implemented specifically for OCZ's "Voltage eXtreme" technology.

Voltage eXtreme allows the memory modules to operate at voltages well above the regular DDR voltage as outlined by JEDEC. At 3.3V, the memory is capable of running at timings of 2-2-2-1T at DDR500 speeds, and is capable of running at 3.5V without invalidating your OCZ Lifetime Warranty. That is blistering fast. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that such low timings at DDR500 will be all the rage among enthusiasts.

OCZ Technology, Inc. is every overclocker and enthusiast's best friend. Ever since they became a big name in the industry, they've been pumping out solid products. They have some of the most-attractive and well-performing products out there, especially when it comes to their memory and power supplies. With lifetime warranties, extended warranties on high-voltage operation, and excellent customer service, it's easy to see why they've become a daily mention on all enthusiast computer forums.
