We recently took a look at Thermaltake's Silent PurePower 350W fanless power supply, and while it proved that a fanless concept works, it considerably raised the temperature of both the processor and the temperature on the surface of the case when compared to a standard double-fan power supply. The Thermaltake solution worked very well in lowering the overall noise level of our test system, but due to the extra heat, it caused some instability in our torture system that lacked any sort of airflow. Today, in a sort of mini-comparison, we will be looking at OCZ Technology's 520W ModStream power supply, which features complete customizability of power connectors ("EZMod Technology") and PowerWhisper Technology with a 120 mm fan, among other things. OCZ Technology has been at the forefront of enthusiast hardware since mid-2000, when they entered the memory market with the determination to manufacturer the fastest and most robust DDR and RDRAM modules. Since then, OCZ has been an innovator in many areas, always catering to the needs and wants of enthusiasts. Today's product is no exception to this rule - it is one of the first in what seems to be a growing trend towards modular power supplies allowing the end user to customize your power supply unit by using only the cables you need.
