Noctua NH-L9x65 Low Profile CPU Cooler Review - PAGE 1
Marvin Purdy - Tuesday, July 28th, 2015 Like ShareNoctua announced the release of the NH-L9x65 L-Type low-profile cooler earlier this March 11th. Positioned as a performance-enhanced version of the NH-L9 cooler, the NH-L9x65 stands 28mm taller (hence the x65 designation) using the same NF-A9x14 fan, but incorporates four heat pipes versus two of the previous heatsink model. Even with a height of 65mm, the cooler is no taller than low-profile expansion cards and will work in compact HTPC or small form factor cases.
In keeping with Noctua's compact cooler designs, the NH-L9x65 maintains the 95x95 mm footprint of the same series. By keeping the design within this footprint, Noctua guarantees 100 percent compatibility with Intel based ITX mainboards, on top of not interfere with near-socket components and connectors. Additionally with the NF-A9-14 PWM fan that has a 92x92 mm footprint, there is no overhang of the fan and the fan clips neatly tuck close into the aluminum dissipation fins.
Mounting the NH-L9x65 to the motherboard is done using the SecuFirm2 Mounting System, and installation is facilitated with the heat sink cooler mounting brackets already attached. The only item of any concern is the CPU socket back plate, as users must remember to use the provided Intel backing plate for Intel CPUs from the accessory package, or the back plate provided with AMD motherboards for AMD CPUs.
Build to provide premium cooling and quiet operation, the NH-L9x65 should prove an easy installation for most users with a minimum of computer experience. Now let's start our review by opening the small packaging and taking a thorough look at this compact heatsink cooler.
