Introduction
ATi took the world by storm with the Radeon 9x00 family. NVidia rushed to answer and came out with the underachieving GeForce FX 5800 Ultra. Unlike the FX 5800 Ultra, which lost badly to the Radeon 9700 Pro, the FX 5900 Ultra is everything the FX 5800 Ultra was not, namely, a quiet card that would beat the Radeon 9700 Pro and go head-to-head with the Radeon 9800 Pro.
Three months after our very detailed preview, we have finally received a retail board that we can test out. Today we will be reviewing the MSI NBox N5900 Ultra. The NBox is a limited-edition set, and is now listed on the MSI site as the MSI FX5900U-VTD256.
The card comes with 256 mb of DDR ram running at 850 MHz on a 256-bit bus. It also features DVI-I, 15-pin D-sub and 9-pin S-video connectors.
