The Tuner Unit
The USB2 Deluxe unit is a different looking unit. The white plastic casing feels pretty sturdy and should hold up the rigors of travel. Being relatively thin, the USB2 Deluxe follows the trend of a lot of portable devices which allows end users the ability to slip it in more random places with their luggage.
The coaxial and FM connectors are located on the front of the unit while the video and audio are located on opposite sides of the unit. Audio is limited to a regular 2.5mm connection.
With the ability to capture video, it might have been a better idea to go with RCA connectors so the end user would not have to carry a set of converter cables around. Along with the four rubber feet on the bottom, each of the inputs are also labeled here - this is especially convenient for the FM and cable connections which look the same as well as for those who do not remember the difference between the blue and green audio jacks.
Box Contents
Portability is definitely a key consideration when we take a look at the rest of the box contents. The FM antenna is a solid piece instead of the usual length of cable. The remote is a about the size of a credit card though it is a bit thicker. Along with a selection of drivers and software, Leadtek also throws in a carrying case which has a good amount of padding.
The Remote
Like the actual Tuner unit, the Leadtek remote included in this package is diminutive and because of this, there has to be some consideration in what buttons are placed on the remote unit. The majority consist of the numeric pad and of course volume and channel flipping. It is interesting to note that Leadtek has decided to remove fast forward and rewind as well as menu navigation buttons on the remote. Timeshifting and recording are single button commands so it remains to be seen whether these were the correct choices made when designing this remote.
