Gigabyte GeForce FX 5700 Ultra - PAGE 6
Clarence Kwan - Wednesday, January 28th, 2004

Call of Duty:

Surprisingly when AA is disabled we see that the FX 5700 Ultra beating the FX 5900 and 9600XT at all resolutions. The 9600XT is completely shot down by the 5700 Ultra when it comes to Call of Duty likely because of the higher clockrate of the 5700. CoD is a Quake3 derivative and does not require the extra texturing units found on the 5900. When we tested the cards with 4x AA / 8x AF, we see the FX 5900 taking back the lead. Also from the graph we can clearly see the 5700 Ultra dropping with a greater gradient when we run the demo at 1600x1200, leveling off at a similar frame rate with the 9600XT. Playability wise, the 5700 maxes out at 1280 for Non AA situations and 1024 with 4x AA and 8x AF on.

Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy:

The Rift santuary demo is run with both 4x AA and 8x AF. Here we see a noticeable performance difference between the FX 5700 and the 9600XT. From the Rift Sanctuary demo graph we see both the FX 5900 and the 9600XT producing linear results, but if we look at the 5700 Ultra it seems to have generated a smoother gradient as we increase the resolution to 1600x1200. The 5700 is not playable at 1600 and is passable at 1280 albeit on the slow side.

In the Taspir Demo, there is a very noticeable performance difference between all the cards when AA/AF is not turned on. It seems as though the 9600XT just falls out of place, leaving the remaining cards in competition. Strangely enough, with AA/AF we see that the 5700 Ultra performs better than the FX 5900 slightly. Not much of a difference, but it still wins!
