Today we are going to be taking a look at a 9600 GT, from Gigabyte. While the 9600 GT has been around a while now -- it originally came out in February of '08 -- it is still a capable card, able to handle all of today's games. Actually, although there has been plenty of movements and changes to the video cards hailing from the higher-end spectrum of performance, the landscape of more price-conscious, middle-road options, has not changed a great extent in the last year. Unless of course, you are focusing solely on the price-tags. Between now and the 9600 GT's launch, the price of this G94 card has fallen roughly 50%. ATI and NVIDIA's price-war has always been going; but recently, it has felt even more intense than usual. With the recent launch of the GTS 250 (which offered generally the same performance of the 9800 GTX+), yet another round of the price war ignited and prices have fallen yet again. Currently selling for well below the $100 mark on many online e-tailers, the Gigabyte 9600 GT is not going to be breaking anyone's bank -- even in this rough patch of global economics. And this is not a standard 9600 GT either. This is Gigabyte's third 9600 GT: the GV-N96TZL-1GI. It has 1GB of memory, a non-stock fan from Zalman, and Gigabyte's Ultra Durable VGA. Whoever believes that PC gaming is too expensive really has to check out some of the prices going on these days -- there is just an abundance of viable options under the $150 mark, with many cards selling for $100 and less -- such as today's 9600 GT. Today we'll check out how the 9600 GT is holding up, and see if it still has the legs to get the job done.
