CaseAce GearGrip Pro Review - PAGE 1
Anthony Roberts - Thursday, October 5th, 2000

Introduction

The sturdy handle of the GearGrip Pro
Even before I was into network gaming, before 10/100 NIC cards started becoming a household item, I was already moving my computer from my house, to those of my friends. Moving a computer has always been a chore. The case is not the easiest thing to move, and once you pile on your cables, your keyboard, your mouse, and any CD-ROM discs or other myriad accessories you might want to bring, you are talking about a very large, very bulky, and very unstable tower of equipment. Now that LAN gaming is so popular, the problem becomes even worse. We find ourselves bringing a backpack just to carry all the cables and peripherals, and it still isn’t easy to lug around some 50lb case full of computer components. Along comes CaseAce, with their nifty GearGrip Pro accessory, which literally lets you carry your entire gaming or network rig,
The Complete GearGrip Pro
minus monitor, all in one easy to use carrying system.

CaseAce sent us their standard sized GearGrip Pro, which is rated for a 50” circumference and should fit most mid-sized and mini towers and desktops. They have a “large” sized GearGrip to accommodate servers and full towers up to 70” in circumference. We have an extremely wide mid-tower case, and the GearGrip fit perfectly with room to spare for even larger cases.

The GearGrip Pro works by strapping around your tower case and basically giving you both a luggage-like hand grip, and a shoulder strap. The entire thing straps tightly around your case using tough nylon straps and heavy duty buckles. The straps are sturdy, and the 2” buckles are HUGE, similar to what you use with heavy-duty camping backpacks, and easily strong enough to carry the 70lbs that CaseAce says the GearGrip Pro can hold. The entire package exudes a quiet aura of quality, from the high-tech flexible rubber hand grip, to the rugged high-grade clips and buckles, and finally to the well thought out accessory pouch that would rest on the side of your case – it all comes together for a very efficient transportation system.

The GearGrip's Shoulder Strap and Strap Clip

You can tell right away from the pictures that we’ve taken that you can carry all the essentials. Small loops on the main straps hold power, printer and LAN cables, while the side mesh pouch is deep enough and strong enough that you can slip your keyboard right in so that it snugs tightly against the case with no fear of it slipping out or wiggling around during transportation. A second, smaller pouch is just large enough to fit a few CD jewel cases along with a mouse, so that you can bring a modest software library with you.
