The Package
The Golden Sample comes packaged in a fairly large box (nowhere as large as the nBox which we reviewed here) and looks pretty similar to other Golden Sample products.
Inside, there is the GeForce FX 5950 Ultra, as well as:
- Arx Fatalis
- Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project
- Serious Sam: The First Encounter
- Intervideo WinCinema
- Driver CD
- Manual
- Y-shaped molex Connector
- DVI-VGA connector (in hot pink)
- VIVO breakout cables (in hot pink)
We see there are some problems with the choice of bundled items. Firstly, given the choice, who in their right mind will use hot pink connectors? I think they were trying to continue on with their red / fire scheme but fell a bit short. Most people will not have a red or pink case so the choice of color here is very questionable. On the software front, there is nothing that will really stress out this card, especially not Serious Sam. Our old GeForce 2 MX could run that game without much problem. For a premium priced product, you do not receive much in terms of software, which is a little disappointing. Seeing as how the ATi XT series of cards include a Half-Life 2 download, it would have been nice to see nVidia and their partners try to up the ante a little with a flagship product.
