Logitech Driving Force Pro Review - PAGE 1Gabriel Vega - Monday, March 15th, 2004
The racing genre is one that seems to be constantly expanding these days with new titles coming in for all areas. Rally, Street, Drag, Drift and track racing are all being pushed forward into todays markets, each talking of exclusive features and improved handling physics. Wheels on the market in turn always have to improve and adjust to deliver the best feedback they can when in the hands of the player. Lately Logitech has been dominating the market with their force feedback system but they've fallen behind when it comes to driver issues for games. The Driving Force series was one of improvements for Logitech and also some hard hits to their reputation. Shifting issues in GT3 were a common complaint with users while attempting to negotiate turns on the track which as a result made many sour about the wheel and gave companies like madcatz the go ahead to declare full function with all consoles in their latest lines.
Years later Logitech has improved and has learned from past problems, they've worked hard for quite some time and have partnered with Polyphony Digital to produce the latest and greatest wheel they have to offer. The Driving Force Pro. The wheel sports a 24watt force feedback motor, built in paddles and a sequential shifter for those looking to grab hold of something. This wheel also sports something very unique for fans, a 900 degree turning radius for the soon to be released Gran Turismo 4. With all of these features and a huge compatibility list can the Driving Force Pro deliver to make up for the mistakes of the past? Do all of these features deliver a better driving experience? We'll find out as I break out 2 of the most demanding games for it to survive in. We'll see how far Logitech took the wheel to make it compatible with their declared list.
The box contents of the Driving Force Pro are basic and to the point. No little useless extras that get in the way.

Keep in mind that no lap adapter is included, if you want to use it in that style you'll need to buy the part from your local retailer or use the one from the previous Driving Force. In the case of this test I just attached it to a TV tray which seemed to work perfectly.
Testing was done on the PC but response and resets plagued the testing which barely allowed completion of a single track. While it may work with some PC games, chances are it's not really designed to work with all of them. For this reason I've decided to omit the results found using the wheel on that platform.
