With all the buzz surrounding LGA-775 and Socket 939, the venerable Socket A seems to be have left behind in the wake. AMD however, has not yet given up on the platform and will be breathing some new life into it with the Sempron, arriving later this summer. Nvidia has not given up either with an updated Nforce 2 platform that includes Gbe and the same hardware firewall found on their 250Gb series. Unfortunately, very few manufacturers have picked up on the updated chipset but continue on using the NForce 2 Ultra, arguably the most popular Socket A chipset in the last couple years.
Today we revisit the Nforce 2, specifically DFI's implementation in their LanParty NFII Ultra B. Established in 1981, DFI has really turned some heads in the past year with products that have been very well received by the ever fickle enthusiast market, not an easy task to accomplish. The LanParty series of boards is especially interesting as it goes beyond a basic board but includes an assortment of other parts that should really appeal to enthusiasts.
