Corsair DOMINATOR XMS2-PC8888 Review - PAGE 6

WinRAR

WinRAR shows that while high FSB / high memory speed takes the top spots, and that L2 cache size can matter.

The Corsair XMS2-PC8888 did well, but the greater processor speed on the Ballistix at 361MHzx8 and 39MHz more memory speed caused the Ballistix to take first place, with the Corsair XMS2-8500 taking second place.

Note that the top results were strictly in order of FSB speed.

The XMS2-8888 results with a higher FSB suffered from the 2MB smaller L2 cache in the E6400 for WinRAR, thus those results are fairly low on this chart.

If you use WinRAR a lot, the 4MB L2 cache would make a large difference for you.

Doom 3

The Doom 3 chart shows a clear correlation between FSB speed and frame rates - and is also greatly affected by 4MB vs. 2MB CPU L2 cache. The Corsair XMS-2 PC2-8888 does quite well, achieving 244.9fps 1045MHz at 4-4-4-12 timing.

Its older sibling, the Corsair XMS2-PC8500 takes second place, and the Ballistix PC-8000 took first place in this test.
