Compex NetPassage 26G Wireless Router - PAGE 2

NetPassage 26G

The NetPassage 26G is Compex's Wireless-G Broadband Gateway. The 26G comes in the distinctive bronze color that is synonymous with Compex router products. It comes in a compact form that is roughly the same size as the Microsoft line of routers; meaning it is much smaller than the Linksys based ones. Visually it is not the most appealing product, it is on the boxy side and the strange speaker-like pattern that sits on top makes it look like a small radio. Like many of the smaller routers, the NetPassage comes with only 1 antenna. Like most wireless broadband routers, the NetPassage has 4 LAN jacks and an additional port for the WAN connection. Unlike other routers, there are two USB ports on the back of the router, one for a printer and the second for a web cam. More on both of these later. The NetPassage uses a PRISM wireless chip from Intersil, the same provider that provides wireless access to Crusoe based laptops. PRISM is the same chip that powers products from such companies as 3Com, Cisco, D-Link and Nokia.

A few other items that come with the router include an AC adapter, a manual, a CD and a bracket for wall mounting. The AC adapter is of the large variety that likes to block off neighboring electrical outlets. This is not a gripe that is just directed towards Compex but a lot of other manufacturers also- big power bricks are annoying; have a regular plug that goes to a power adapter and from that, a connector to the device.
