Cooler Master Storm SF-19 Notebook Cooler Review - PAGE 1
Carl Poirier - Monday, October 25th, 2010 Like ShareJust because desktop computers are the platform of choice for overclocking doesn't mean that laptops aren't entitled to any of that fun. With a desktop, it's fairly easy to upgrade the cooling solution for safer and improved overclocking; one can change the processor heatsink, or improve the case air flow by adding more fans with little to no experience. For laptops, it's quite different. Due to the restrained form factor of the system, one cannot really mess with the cooling system. Furthermore, most laptops will see their warranty voided if cracked open. Overclocking isn't the only reason one could want to reduce the internal temperatures of a laptop, though; keeping the components cool, even at default hardware configuration, can extend their lifespan as well.
So what can one do to improve the temperatures of his laptop without messing with the internals? One simple solution is to improve the air flow surrounding it. In fact, most laptops have air vents on the bottom, however this air flow is most of the time restrained underneath. To address this, coolers that consist of a base with fans were introduced, on which a laptop can rest while getting some fresh air(flow) in the process.
Cooler Master is one big player when it comes to keeping laptops cool. In this article, we look one of their offerings, the Storm SF-19 Strike Force oriented toward the enthusiast crowd.
