Chaintech 7NJS Ultra ZENITH Review - PAGE 2
Andy Zen - Monday, October 20th, 2003

Features and Layout

The 7NJS Ultra is a full-featured motherboard, with 3 DDR Ram slots (supports up to 3 gigs of ram), 5 PCI slots, 1 ACR slot, C-media 5.1 channel audio, 10/100 Onboard LAN, 3 IDE channels, 2 SATA ports. There are also a lot of pins for other USB pin headers, wake-on-LAN and a smart card reader (which is not provided).

Looking at the layout of the motherboard, one of the first things that you (might) notice is that with a larger graphics card like the GeForce FX 5900, it is not possible to install or remove RAM with the AGP card installed. There is a lot of space to the right of the DIMM slots. If the slots were moved an inch to the right, this would not be a problem.

The CPU socket does not seem to have too much room around it, but it has fit every heatsink that we have thrown at it recently. However, do note that there are a few small chips and capacitors underneath the overhang of some of the larger heatsinks. To Chaintech’s credit, however, they did provide mounting holes for the biggest and heaviest heatsinks.

However, you see that Chaintech has provided everything for this motherboard, including rounded ATA-133 cables, a rounded floppy cable, 2 yellow SATA cables, firewire ACR card and an optical out cable.

On the back panel, you can see that Chaintech has it laid out slightly differently from other motherboards by putting the USB and LAN ports at the bottom rather than under the PS/2 ports. You can also see the parallel port, 2 serial ports, the game port and the audio plugs.
