Introduction
What can I say? It's a wireless world. I dig my wireless mouse, I like the convenience of 802.11x and I scowl at the rat's nest of wiring behind my computer. Wireless USB was demonstrated by NEC at WinHEC but until that comes to fruition, there are other options available including Bluetooth. There have recently been natively wireless printers that have been released to join all things wireless. Fortunately, those of us with working USB printers that want the freedom of wireless but not the cost of a new printer, Bluetake has a wireless Bluetooth USB Printer kit.
Bluetake is a sister company of Thermaltake that deals exclusively with Bluetooth products. A short while ago, we took a look a look at their BT500/BT009X mouse and dongle combo as well as a Bluetooth cellular bluetooth headset. Both units performed admirably well and today we take a look at their BT210 USB Pinter adapter as well as the BT007X Adapter.
Specifications
BT007X
The specifications for the BT007X dongle and the BT009X dongle are exactly the same except for one difference: the BT007X included in the printer package is a Bluetooth Class 1 device with an operating range of up to 100m. The BT009x is a Class 2 device with a range of 10m. This is somewhat surprising as all the other specifications are the same including sensitivity, power consumption, input power and output power yet because this is a Class 1 device it has 10x the range.
BT210
The 100m range of both the USB printer unit and the dongle rival WI-FI. Unfortunately the caveat is that the 100m is open space and not 100m through walls and such.
