BFG GeForce 7900 GTX OC SLI - PAGE 1
Tom Karpik - Thursday, March 23rd, 2006

Just over a week ago, NVIDIA launched their new flagship GeForce 7900 GTX series. The 7900 GTX differs little from its 7800-era cousin, the 7800 GTX 512, but it brings with it much higher clock speeds at no cost in heat output. NVIDIA once again pulled off a successful launch by opting not to go with the paper route. Though there seem to be some problems meeting demand for the 7900 series at the moment, the fact that NVIDIA had a number of big-name launch partners signed up on launch day, with products ready to go, is indicative of the way things are done at NVIDIA.

The technology behind the 7900 GTX's G71 GPU needs no introduction, as we discussed the 7900 GTX in detail in our launch article, featuring an EVGA GeForce 7900 GTX card, here, so I'l refrain from rehashing information that is still fresh in everyone's minds.

While XFX managed to get a card out to us before the launch, BFG Technologies, Inc. has been kind enough to send us an entire shipment of 7600/7900-series cards, two of which are GeForce 7900 GTXs. Both these companies are always at the forefront of any NVIDIA launch, with products ready to be gobbled up by eager gamers on the very first day.

Past experiences with BFG's products have turned me into a fan, not only because of the cards themselves, but also because of the bundle and general presentation. Does BFG's GeForce 7900 GTX OC live up to the same standard that we have come to expect from BFG? In order to better answer that question, we should explain what exactly is it that we expect.

Branding themselves as “By Gamers, For Gamers”, BFG Technology, Inc. has made a name for themselves with their affordable "OC" series of video cards. Professionally boxed along with a full set of accessories and backed by a lifetime warranty, BFG’s products set a bar that very few NVIDIA-based card manufacturers have met.

BFG's "OC" series appeals to the tech crowd because these cards are overclocked out of the box – but with a difference. Not only does BFG fully support these overclocked cards, they also retain the same lifetime warranty, and it’s all done without any form of esoteric cooling. These overclocked cards are provided to gamers at the same prices as stock-clocked competitor’s cards, raising that bang-for-the-buck bar yet again. Oh, and you usually get a sweet t-shirt in the box along with your video card.

Let's see what awaits us.
