Well, at least the GTX is better. From what I read, the XFX version is better than 2 7950 GX2's in SLI. That sound good at all?

The GTX looks nice, 86.4 GB/S memory bandwidth is nothing short of impressive.

I agree with Cheesy. The synthetic benchmarks are nice looking, but there is no game that w2ill fully utilize all that power. For 450 dollars, i can get a nice x1900xt or 7900GTX(though id rather get the x1900xt) and save the money for something else. Also, no games use DX10 yet, so theres no point until Crysis comes out, by which time there will be more DX10 cards available and the price wars will have started. Until this card is either priced reasonably, or can actually be used to its full potential, its utterly nothing more that something to brag about. The GTX looks a lot nicer, but with its 600-700 dollar price tag, its performance isn't worth its price(yet). I want to see how these cards perform in a DX10 game first, and I can't wait to see how ATI fires back, and what the second generation of DX10 cards look like, Those should really be amazing.

axforts2212, I wasn't impressed with it's performance at all. The card seems to underperform to me. 450-500 dollars for that card seems like an outragious waste of money. I hope the 650ish dollar price tag on the GTX can fufill the performance of what you would expect to get by paying the price of a mid spec office PC.

I don't get some of the logic. If you were buying a video card right this minute and were looking at the $400-450 price range you'd pay nearly the exact same price to buy an X1950 XTX that doesn't always outperform the 8800GTS, and yet in XX months time would be completely outclassed when DX10 titles hit?

The 8800GTS is beating the single XTX card in FEAR, Prey, Q4, and Far Cry and both are priced EXACTLY the same right now.

Add to that the fact that the card now supports HDR + AA and I think its hard to argue too much in favour of buying an older X1950 XTX card versus a DX10 capable GTS. (newegg shows the XTX card ranging from $409 to $449).

My advice is that if you are unwilling to pay for the GTS because of concerns about when its power will become useful, then don't buy any video card right now above $250US. Stick with the older X1800 and X1900GT/GTO class cards, or the 7800GT class and wait until the titles come out, then buy a price reduced GTS or whatever equivalet G80/R600 card is available at the time that fits your budget. For goodness' sake don't plunk down $450 on last year's DX9 flagship.

I still find it ironic when ATI comes out with new technology that nobody can use they are praised for their forward looking planning. When NVIDIA does it the ATI fans complain about how overpriced the unused features are and how it will be months before it is worth buying .

IMO, everything takes months before it is worth buying. I was actually a little pissed that the 7800gt didn't drop in price AT ALL after the release of two newer generation cards. I'm just now starting to look at an SLI set-up with the 78gt. The 88 is nice to look at, but I have a hard time justifying that expense on a video card...regardless of ATI or nVidia.

These things will be down to the $250 price range in no time. Hell, the first BluRay drive has dropped $200 already.

I agree that the upper end prices are just too much. I just found the idea of buying a $450 DX9 card to be a poor logical choice, considering the performance of the GTS isn't really as bad as you'd think from reading the thread.

Wait a few more weeks for the 8800's to show in volume for the holiday and the 78's should probably come down in price.

Nobody said anything about using x1950xtx, i said x1900xt, a sub $300 card. I think for now, theres no real justification to have the 8800 until DX10 is even available and programs use it. Especially with the $450 price tag. If I had that cash to blow, hell, why not? But reality speaking, it doesnt ake sense to jsut go and get it for the sake of it, when in a few months the prices will drop and some second gen Dx10 cards will be available.

Very true. If you've alotted $450 for a gfx card why get anything less than the best? Especially considering the DX10 support and the other new features. If it "isn't worth it" now, then neither is a lesser card without DX10 support. It's kinda like dual core...you know you will need it eventually.

Hopefully the GTX is quite a bit faster because that is quite disappointing.
